Honestly just about every one of Goku's friends was an enemy at first, the first time Bulma met him she shot him in the head. Also I think the blowing themselves up isn't a special technique it's just throwing all your energy out to try and take your opponent with you. It's not something special to a character like the destructo disk is to Krillin.
