Episode 2, Update #8

Hail!

As I'm out this weekend, I'll do my weekly update a bit earlier. Not a great deal to update you all on, other than that it is slowly coming together piece by piece.

I've attached a short video of the trainer selection menu. It's an early iteration that I will continue to work on next week. It's a complicated one to set up since it allows you to choose your fighting style by combining striking and grappling, each requiring a different trainer and sub-group with different people (That's a lot of paths to account for!).

Anyway, I think it'll be fun and in time, I hope you find that as well! Any questions or concerns, do let me know. I'm always open to answer.

Enjoy your week,

Ezy

I'll have a look at something like that. Probably in the form of a confirmation message at the end, asking you if you want to stick with it or change your decision.

If you decide to lock in a style, perhaps allow us to explore the options in this initial training session. So we can pick one, do a session with it, then loop back to this choice and try out the other ones. I know we can easily just save before the choice to test them all, but by having it be an in-game test run it lets the MC feel like he is trying out his options. You could also throw in flavour text based on the order we try them out.

Correct, the other two are a grappling only choice and will become available after you have chosen your stand-up style. The "wall of text" screen is something I will refine next week. It's going to be pretty much as you described with the pros, moves and stat advantages made available to you. What you are seeing now is just the technical set up as a base for me to work from. At first, I was going to make the choices permanent in a single playthrough. Mainly because it will be incredibly difficult to open up all options at once AND keep track of all possible combinations that come with doing it this way. I fear it will become too complicated. I do very much like this idea and will keep it in mind as I start putting everything together and who knows, I may find a creative way to make it work. Thanks for the input!

I assume that the other two will also be available when you're finished with that selection screen, right? BTW I personally felt a bit overloaded with the wall of text that hits you when you select one of the styles. I'm not a sports person and wouldn't be too much into reading all that background info, but would like to see it as an optional sub-menu point. What I'd like to know in one glance though would be the obvious pros and cons of my selection. Boxing: pro - hard strikes on upper body, con - no focus on legs Kickboxing: pro - versatile good attacks, con - no mastery in any area As I have no clue on the sports like I said this is just an example. It would give you the absolute essential of what you'll choose without going into any details you wouldn't probably need to play the game (at least I hope so). If I'd like to dig further into what's going on I might ask any of the trainers where their style originates from, who would be masters of the art, how the biggest champions would be found and what-have-you-not...I guess it could go on for as long as you'd like. Additionally, I would hope that early on it would be made clear whether I'd have to stick to one of these techniques or if a change midway is possible or even trainign in more that one - which I'd like as an option: pick what seems best for you from all five worlds and see if you can make it work. These are just random thoughts that came to mind while watching this early iteration video. Thanks for keeping us updated. Really looking forward to see how it all plays out.
