ViM Studios: Dev Log 16-Sep-2022

As always, it's a busy month for our studio! We hope it's obvious from our progress update that we have been working hard on Prince of Suburbia and V0.8 is almost complete!

Prince of Suburbia

This update of Prince of Suburbia involved remastering a few earlier scenes and replacing all of the sprites. The new sprites are not a one-to-one equivalent of the old sprites (the new sprites have far more variations). So, the coding and testing was more intensive than a normal update where we are only adding new content.

Still, barring any major unforeseen problems, we should be able to start Early Release of V0.8 of Prince of Suburbia within the next few days. As soon as we have an official timeline (hopefully later today) we will make an announcement!

Business Stuff

Besides powering through the remainder of the V0.8 release, we have also spent more time than we'd like catching up on administrative tasks such as taxes and other super fun stuff like that. ;)

This week we also got the page set up for Prince of Suburbia - Part 2 on Steam, a paid DLC that will give our Steam players access to the most recent updates of Prince of Suburbia! We have also been gradually redoing all the branding for Prince of Suburbia to reflect the new sprites and remastered art.

There will be even more work along these lines in the near future as we update the FREE DEMO (Part 1 - V0.55) of Prince of Suburbia on all platforms and actually launch the paid DLC on Steam.

We are also hoping to release A Shot in the Dark in some form on Steam before the end of the year, which means doing a lot of these tasks yet another time!

All that to say, as our studio grows, the more business-oriented and administrative aspects of our studio (especially marketing and community building) have been taking more and more time away from actual game development.

So, we will be looking into hiring out some of that work, but haven't figured out exactly what that will look like yet. Stay tuned! We're open to ideas and suggestions, if you have wisdom to offer in this area!

A Shot in the Dark

Despite the focus of the past two weeks being mostly on Prince of Suburbia and the business overall, we did manage to make a little progress on renders and preparing animations for Chapter 2 (2nd half - V0.2) of A Shot in the Dark

It bears repeating that V0.2 has significantly more lewd scenes than V0.15 and we are so happy with how they are looking so far! We started working on the animations for V0.2 right after the release of V0.15, and we will probably be working on them all the way up to the release of V0.2. There are just so many of them and we can't wait to share them with you! :D

Thank you as always for your support! We couldn't do this without you.

Down the road we're also hoping to learn Blender to improve the animation quality for ASitD which would be a focus on jiggle physics improvements and better control over objects pressing against other objects instead of disappearing into each other. Thank you for your patience and support!

Thank you for the kind words! No worries, PoS is a funny abbreviation but it's definitely how we refer to the game as well. The two games are quite different as far as what kind of experience is offered other than the obvious 2D/3D difference. PoS is a linear story which leans in very hard on the kinks. It has less features and gameplay options than ASitD. That being said, it is great at what it does best which is providing a very kinky and fun experience with tons of lewd scenes for players. If you do play it, try to get to the later updates with the newer art and animations (you'll see the quality of them in a couple of the earlier remastered scenes with the update that is coming).

For me it's all about the quality and consistency with which you deliver under both titles. I would not usually have gone anywhere near a title such as "POS"...and dammit! what an unfortunate abbreviation that is. I honestly don't mean anything derogatory using it here. I am on board almost exclusively as a result of becoming enchanted with "ASITD" and its ensemble cast, though I am very keen, even though it seems to not be my thing, to give "POS" a chance to impress me too (why not for C's sake?). However, I'm happy to support both for as long as you ultimately deliver to the level of my expectations as already primed by the standard of quality you have already achieved and delivered. I am therefore okay with waiting, now and at various other times, for fresh product while you adapt and expand as you feel necessary in order to take advantage of and increase momentum and continue, with time, to not only maintain but improve the quality of the artistry you will deliver to us with respect to both titles.
