2024-04-10 03:50:37 +0000 UTCFor season 1-2 in Cobra Kai u just need to watch the first movie which just makes it easier for u to understand only 2 seasons out of 5 (6 coming soon). for 3-5, karate kid 2 and 3 combined will make it understandable more and makes the experience better but if ur just relying on the flashbacks it would take some time figuring it out but it would be more quicker to finish the show if u just only watch one movie and move on to finish the series.

2024-04-10 03:02:07 +0000 UTCIf we want to be super thorough in terms of context and what is actually needed, I'd honestly say you can watch the first movie, watch the first season, then watch the second movie and keep watching the series. I'd even recommend watching the 3rd movie and then season 2 onwards, skipping the second movie, but that just makes an even bigger mess in terms of keeping up with watch order and all that. So maybe, if you wanted to, you could watch Karate Kid 2 and 3 after season 1 of Cobra Kai and then keep watching the show. The other movies are honestly not necessary (although I personally really like the reboot/remake with Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith, but that's neither here nor there).

The show is a continuation of those movies and there are A LOT of references to the movies and characters from those movies that you will not understand if you don't watch them. The 4th movie has different characters and isn't really canon and the 5th movie is a reboot with different characters altogether. The first 3 movies are good movies and are among the classics that everyone should see at least once in their lives. If you can't watch them first then i would recommend that you don't watch Cobra Kai until a later date when you are able to watch the first 3 movies as it will spoil a lot of moments and character development if you watch the show first.

I don’t think it is needed, especially because whenever something is needed to know it gives you a flashback. You are fine not watching the movies so if you enjoyed the show then just continue watching it. I personally love it
