Obito probably suffered from the Sunk Cost Fallacy. I don’t think we understand how fast Obito could have completed this plan if he actually wanted to see it through.

Watch this ( https://youtube.com/shorts/Ed6we_LC2is?feature=share ) When the tailed beast is extracted the host dies because their body isn’t used to living without it. Obito lived longer without the ten tails then with it so he can live longer compared to naruto and gara which had it since they were baby’s.
