It probably has copyrights on designs to all its tanks/cars/airplanes that Verrick would want. But why buy them and let Asumi make all the money when he could put Asumi in a horrible situation so she'd have the sell shares so he could then come in and make much much much more money in the future from those designs.

He has money, and Asami has a business that was about to go bust. If he supports her, he'll make more money in the long run, but doing it this way means she owes him.
