The expansive reach this show does on niche supernatural folklore from a multiple cultures is fantastic!! so small werewolf history: as mentioned above from other comments, turning into one requires a bite from a werewolf. Overall it is pretty streamline regarding the how (via bite), but most variation comes with the side effects of turning. For example: the design of the werewolf has many many variations. Like you've seen in this so far, it's mainly humanoid with additional lycan features. But other depictions show a full four-legged wolf, a two-leg walking fully changed wolf, or a furry/hairy version of the humanoid version (The Wolf-man 1980s(?) for example). The speed of transformation also varies across media which I find to be fascinating; instantaneous or slow and painful. Not to mention in more modern depictions, there is the idea of there being a survival rate for the bite which isn't touched on as much in classic films or ancient stories. And lastly another modern werewolf trend is if there are differences between being bitten and being born. Again, most older tales are about lycanthropy being a disease and it's something that people can catch which is why there isn't much "pack"-like behaviors in stories and older films. Basically older stuff leaned more into the "lone-wolf" trope. I'm barely scratching the surface of werewolf mythology, and don't get me started on creature feature development because that's a whole other really cool aspect to the genre (think differences between this and Lupin from Harry Potter).

That's why they wear pads and full helmets. It was originally played by Native Americans and is now played nationwide. Though it's not as big as like the NBA, NFL, or even soccer (football) in the US. It is popular in high school (years 9-12) and college though, and all these guys are high schoolers.

2025-03-15 06:39:43 +0000 UTCI haven't looked through all the comments, but in case it hasn't been mentioned yet, in most werewolf lore that I've heard or read, a werewolf's bite will infect the bitten with lycanthropy and turn them into a werewolf (or werecreature, as in some lore, there are more than just wereWOLVES). In some lore, a werewolf's scratch will do the same as the bite, though that is not as established lore as the werewolf's bite. In Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it was only the bite, since a character was scratched by a werewolf and didn't get infected with lycanthropy. As far as I know (and to be fair, I'm more into vampires than werewolves, so I could be mistaken), werewolf lore seems to be less changeable, more consistent than vampire lore across different franchises. Werewolf bite, sometimes scratch, causing lycanthropy, changing on the full moon, and silver bullets kill are the most well known (to me, anyway) werewolf lore bits that are usually consistent. Not always; there are anomalies, such as the White Wolf RPGs that have a unique approach to different supernatural creature lore, including werewolves. Stick with Supernatural....try The Vampire Diaries....heck, if you haven't seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer...you will get some different werewolf insights as well as a slew of different supernatural creatures; I don't feel that's a spoiler, because it's apparent by their titles that they're about supernatural entities, and I won't give any details. I haven't seen Teen Wolf in many years, and I'm looking forward to re-watching it.
