You stay at the same age as when you were bitten and never age, and are essentially immortal. Although can be killed given the right method. So yes, similar to the werewolf bite.

With that in mind, The Vampire Diaries there is even more stuff going on, but the romance is also a big part of the show. But it's worth it once we get into all the backstabbings, plot twists and impossible situations. Also you have a typo in the title. Should be "Diaries"

But Don does have other shows he's watching. Given how much he enjoys Teen Wolf, though, I expect we will see it tomorrow or the next day. He's really liking the series.

Season 1 definetely is the weakest season and most of the extra corny sappy stuff happens in the early episode of the 1st season and then dies down a bit later. I know people want him to watch originals but he can't watch that before watching tvd. The context is important. Otherwise the originals won't have meaning.

I'm not a romantic at all, and I don't generally care for it or "ship" couples. Trust me, the romantic aspect is only a part of the story. Think of it as a similar arc to the earlier series Teen Wolf and the whole Scott/Allison thing. TVD is a series aimed at young adults and older teens, and the romance is part of it. But yes, there will be a whole lot more to the series than romance. Much, much more.
