Scheming is more than telling bald-faced lies to someone's face, and Miidro doesn't exactly do that to begin with. His roundabout way of speaking is enough to not necessarily catch much more attention than someone offering flattery. And he does this naturally, without even knowing about the family's ability.

So I reread the story in its entirety on Friday. Wouldn't the royal family be exceedingly difficult to scheme against/around since their words/language gift applies to all languages, even the native ones?

I’m actually scared of him learning about the plan to marry Jintu and Kizarasunga, because he clearly seems like he’ll use that information to his own advantage.
Though I’m sure he’ll realize that MAYBE being too upfront with the Royal Family might end up backfiring

I think I've said this before, but Alli writes a very effective greasy villain.

The contrast between General “Wipe That Shit Off Your Face” Miidro when you don’t have something he wants and General “You Poor Creature” Miidro when you do have something he wants is WILD.

Murdering him with a cheese is getting off lightly. Half kill him with it then throw him in the ocean.
