Dawn Guard
Armor (Shield), Legendary (Vestige of Divergence), Requires Attunement
“This shield is the physical symbol of the pact between The Vernal King, and his mortal knight. Its presence alone commands a modicum of respect from anyone with fey heritage, as an act against the King’s agent while on their duties is an act against the King himself.
The Dawn Guard itself is crafted from magical bronze, with its face enchanted to be the cool emerald of calm waters, various bronze filigree of plants and other natural features decorate the shield, while a spectral blossom glows with warm light.”
Dormant.
- While wielding this magic shield, you gain a +1 to AC. This bonus is in addition to the shield's normal bonus to AC.
- As a bonus action, you may cast the Thorn Whip cantrip. When casting “Thorn Whip” this way, If you do not have the ability to cast spells, you may use Strength or Dexterity when determining your spell attack bonus for this cantrip.
Awakened
“When the Dawn Guard reaches an awakened state, the decorative filigree of the shield begins to flourish, the bronze seedlings and various plant life grows as if it were alive, sprouting buds while brambles and branches cross to form an extra layer of defense.”
- When casting your Thorn Whip cantrip through the shield, the damage is increased to 2d6, and creatures affected by this can be pulled up to 20 feet.
- Whenever a creature attacks you and misses, they take 1d4 Piercing damage, as the thorns and brambles on the shield stab into them.
Exalted
“Upon reaching its Exalted state, the Dawn Guard reaches its full potential as the Shield of the Spring Knight and is granted full access to Oberon’s power, the bronze seedlings become small trees in full bloom, while the shield’s face gains another protective facet.
The spectral blossom atop the shield begins to shine with dazzling pink light.”
- The AC bonus provided by the shield increases to +2.
- The damage dealt by the shield when a creature misses an attack against you is increased to 2d4. Additionally, whenever a creature is dealt damage by the shield as a result of missing an attack against you, the shield heals you for a like amount.
- When casting your Thorn Whip cantrip through the shield, the damage is increased to 3d6. Additionally, a creature hit by the cantrip is Restrained. On their turn, they may make a DC18 Strength (Athletics) check to attempt to break free as an Action. While restraining a creature in this way, you can move them 20ft. in any direction as a Bonus Action, but they cannot be moved more than 30ft. away from you.
