The definition of underrated as this episode goes from silly to heartfelt in the tail end and it’s magnificent. Mac has always been one of my fav characters even if he doesn’t do much but I quite like the quiet trope. It makes speaking parts like this iconic and impactful. Also loved the interactions between him and AJ. His tone and way he carried himself was obviously feeling dejection. Oooo that switch. I can easily get why it’s awkward for everyone but honestly a bit progressive? This was cringy, hilarious, and so hard to accept but when you look as to why he went through all this trouble, it makes so much sense that it’s touching. The vulnerability in this episode was unmatched as that sunset convo at the end was the most sweetest and honest thing I’ve heard in the series. As an older brother who is aware of when connections and preferences of siblings, this episode struck an emotional and resonating chord. Mac is the unsung hero! Oh and that dream Alicorn explanation here is AMAZING! Thank you for that insight And I also did looove how this took place when AJ and rarity were gone. It’s small connected things like that that makes me appreciate seasons and developments.

- Some notes/thoughts/facts: - Poor Big Mac looks excluded, unsatisfied and longing here: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/2/2f/Applejack_and_Apple_Bloom_having_fun_together_S5E17.png All while Applejack and Apple Bloom are training along together. Apple Bloom: "You saved Equestria like a gazillion times, you're smart, funny, strong... why, you're the best sister of all time! Probably the best Apple of all time! Right, Big Mac?" Oof, she stabs him into his heart way too hard... But Applejack knows that something is up and was trying to talk with him but was interrupted by episode 16! 😅 Its so nice to see RD being regarded as Scootalo's "Sister" and that she is still supporting her. And thus "Orchard Blossom" enters the Stage, Big Mac's Crossdressing alter ego. Well isnt he...erm...pardon *she quite a beauty? 😅 Big Mac never spoke this much before as he did here... and he is truly invested to support Apple Bloom and let her recognize how aweseome he still is. Big Mac is also doing it for him to be recognized as Apple Bloom's awesome brother. https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/4/4b/Berryshine_and_Pina_Colada_racing_S5E17.png The right one was depicted as the drinker, she is called "Berryshine" (Berry Punch), the left one is "Pina Colada" and she seems to be Berry's sister. Sadly Big Mac totally lost composure and sportsmanship in an attempt to get the blue ribbon on the last obstacles of this course... He even was about to smash Apple Bloom down on the ground like a foodball after passing the goal... https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/c/ca/Orchard_Blossom_deep_voice_%22woo-hoo%21%22_S5E17.png https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/d/dd/Registration_stallion_looking_for_Orchard_Blossom_S5E17.png Btw. that guy, who was ogling for "Orchard Blossom" resembled Osgood Fielding in the 1959 film "Some Like It Hot", in which Fielding falls for a cross-dresser. Apple Bloom and Big Mac talking on that hill was very wholesome... him finally talking about why he did it was much needed and such a heartfelt moment: Big McIntosh: "When you were little, you used to look up to me, thought I was the best thing since zap apple jam. Things are different now. Applejack's the hero of the Apple family, always rushin' off to save Equestria. And I'm just here on the farm, doin' chores, helpin' out the way I can, nothin' special, nobody's hero." Big McIntosh: "I guess I just thought if I could... fill in for Applejack at the Social and get you a blue ribbon, well, I could be somepony you looked up to again. Be your hero again. Even if it was for just a day." - Do you remember back to "Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?" where Big Mac was dreaming about being a magical girl Alicorn? http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xmLNcGesTjk/VhC4nps082I/AAAAAAAAIKE/A4L1FmZpVVs/s1600/1443933909836.png This moment propably explains it. Also thats one hell of a nice sunset/picture here at the end: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/1/13/Apple_Bloom_%22how_do_you_think_cousin_Orchard_Blossom%22_S5E17.png And yes, the voice actor of Big MacIntosh Peter New did also the voice: https://www.tiktok.com/@actorpeternew/video/7176440140280237317 --- This episode of MLP, with its mix of humor, heart, and deeper themes, was quite the ride. The continuity, connecting it with "Made in Manehattan" adds an extra layer, letting us peek into what's happening back at home while others are off on their adventures in Manehattan. Big Mac dressing as "Orchard Blossom" was both a bold and tricky move, with the show managing to navigate the potential pitfalls of the theme surprisingly well. Personally, the sheer ridiculousness of the situation, especially Big Mac's over-the-top attempts to blend in as Orchard Blossom, was almost too awkward for me to handle the first time i watched it. It's not the cross-dressing that made me squirm, but rather him making a fool out of himself in this situation. Yet, despite my initial discomfort and still cringing at some parts, the end of the episode made it all worthwhile. The way Big Mac's intentions and love for Apple Bloom shone through was both touching and redemptive, giving meaning to his otherwise misguided efforts. Even though everyone recognized Big Mac, the show asked us to suspend disbelief, and it was clear that, if he had kept his cool, no one would have made a fuss. Instead, his competitive spirit got the better of him, leading to a disqualification that was as inevitable as it was humorous. The episode also gave us a rare, deeper look into Big Mac's character, exploring his internal struggles and the lengths he'd go to in order to connect with his sister. His vulnerability and desire for Apple Bloom's approval struck a chord, making the episode's conclusion particularly resonant. Also theres a theory that i found interesting, which was the idea that the Tree of Harmony might also have played a hand in this: It send Applejack away to give Big Mac his moment with Apple Bloom to reconnect with each others. While fans were divided over the cringe factor, with some appreciating it as part of the show's quirky charm and others finding it off-putting, the episode still managed to address societal views on cross-dressing and gender roles with a surprising level of respect and nuance. Whether or not it was intended, some fans even saw it as a subtle nod towards supporting gender nonconformity. In the end, this episode balanced humor and heartfelt moments well, offering a closer look at Big Mac's character and delivering a story that was as touching as it was unexpected. It reminded us that even the quietest characters have their moments to shine, and sometimes, those moments come in the most unexpected forms. Again another nice reaction as always! - thank you! 💙😄 P.S.: I loved your analogy of "all shades of Big Mac" 🤣
