Pinkie and Applejack Family's DO NOT Get Along | My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 5 Episode 20 REACTION + Discussions

Nice! I like the passage of time through the holidays. S6 has one thus far 😉 Loved the continued connection of the AJ and Pinkie! Also how divided and crazy families can be. I also enjoyed seeing how different pinkie is from her family. Makes me feel comfortable for some reason. MAUD! She’s becoming an all series favorite for me. We’ve seen him speak up so I’m sure he’d talk and step up if he really loves her 🥹 Man AJ really showing some faults here but they’ve been all throughout the series. She forced the issue and her traditions onto them which also excluded them hosting. Loved how she came around to learn about compromise and also getting along. Seems AJ needs to learn not to be a control freak. What a great episode about family, bonds, traditions, and acceptance of everything!

- Some notes/thoughts/facts: - Its Hearth's Warming Eve again! Its been 2 winters now since the last aired one: "Winter Wrap Up" (S1E11) -> "Hearth's Warming Eve" (S2E11) -> "Tanks for the Memories" (S5E05) -> "Hearthbreakers" (this episode) Sure, Twi had to gift a book to Spike... what else? I absolutely LOVE tomato and salt! That the Apples and the Pie family celebrate Hearth's Warming Eve together, is a nice callback to the episode "Pinkie Apple Pie" (S4E09), since they are possibly cousins: Pinkie Pie: "Apples and Pies together again for the first time! Maybe. Unless we're related! Which maybe we're not. I think I just confused myself." Applejack: "Friends or family, this here's about togetherness." - but as AJ said it is about togetherness, despite however the relations may be. We get a quick reminder of what Hearth's Warming Eve was about in a cutesy way with animated gingerbread. Fun-fact: Originally it was planned to use Real candy, but it proved to be too difficult and too time consuming. Apple Bloom's voice was in part indeed a little bit deeper, but considering that her VA Michelle Creber was just 11 years old when she started voicing her in 2010 and was 16 in this episode, its no wonder it was bound to change at some point. She still was able to maintain it quite well, but sometimes it still peeks through and you are able to hear it 😅 Pinkie Pie: "Number of Apples times number of Pies is twenty four, minus my preexisting friendships plus one for Maud and you makes five from twenty four is... [deep breath] nineteen new friendships!" (AJ, AB, Big Mac, Granny Smith) = 4 (Pinkamena Diane Pie, Igneous Rock, Cloudy Quartz, Limestone Pie, Marble Pie, Maud Pie) = 6 4x6 = 24 minus Pinkies preexisting friendships (Apple Family + Maud) = 5 So 24-5 = 19 // it does check out 😅 Young padawan, you did good being unfazed by Pinkies strange hoofcount: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/6/6d/Pinkie_Pie_with_nineteen_hooves_S5E20.png 😂 Maud Pie! - I just love her! I also love that the whole family is such a contrast to Pinkie... What if i told you that the VA Ingrid Nilson of Maud is the same as for the other two sisters (Limestone and Marble)? And all the traditions differ so much its unbearable for AJ... Applejack: "Yeah, um, you know what? This is what we were expectin'! Right, everypony?" Did AJ just lie here? 😱 Marble Pie: "Mm-hmm." Big McIntosh: "Eeyup." Marble Pie: "Mm-hmm." Big McIntosh: "Eeeeeeeeeyup." - As sweet as this scene is and as much as i would like to ship Big Mac and Marble Pie together, its difficult in terms of each others understandability - if both are being mostly quiet and inexpressive i don't see where this will be going... - Its bound to be problematic... - still it was romantic in a way. And yes they were shipped together very much... And now comes the conflict part, where AJ (with good intentions) shows off her traditions. As much as i understand why she did that, this wasn't the way to do it... "Oh, boy." indeed AJ... you placed a Flag-Pole into a fault line leading Holder's Boulder to topple over and falling down. Ed, you are right Es, as reasonable AJ is normally, she can be stubborn and short-sighted at times... Apple Bloom: "I wish we didn't have to. I really like Maud. She's sweet once you get to know her." - Interesting, while the Mane6 had trouble to connect with Maud, AB does not. Its the same thing with Zecora in Season one. Granny Smith: "You want to know why Holder's Boulder's so danged important? [exhales] Well, now their great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather Holder Cobblestone – he found that boulder in a dragon's nest, older than time itself! He built the family farm around it, even though it was just an ordinary rock. It always brought them good luck." Well if you look closer... - doesnt it look like an actual Egg to you? https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/7/75/Apple_and_Pie_families_split_into_teams_S5E20.png Maybe even an actual Dragon-Egg, from the dragon's-nest? Applejack: "I wasn't tryin' to take your traditions away, I was tryin' to share ours. I was so focused on us bein' one big happy family, I thought we needed the same traditions right away. What I should've done was learn about yours and teach you about ours. And over time, we'd make new traditions together. I'm sorry, y'all." - This is the insight needed from AJ, and the morale of this episode - speaking of morales, you are right Ed, they stopped doing them directly on the nose by pointing them out by writing it somewhere. But the audience (beside some older Fans) matured and is able to understand these morales even though its not called out most of the times. Pinkie Pie: "I think we've just invented our first combined tradition! Pushing Holder's Boulder out of the quarry! [squeals] I can't wait for Applejack to knock it over next Hearth's Warming!" - Err...nope i dont think this is something you should incorporate... 🤣 Maud citing her poems is another reference to the episode "Maud Pie" where thy met her the first time, but her rhyming skills and writing was much better than before. Sadly there were no christmas-y songs here 😑 --- In conclusion, this episode was a refreshing take on Hearth's Warming Eve, focusing not on the holiday itself but on the traditions that define it and the relationships that navigate these customs. It was a powerful reminder that every family has its own way of doing things, and while it's natural to want to share our traditions, it's crucial to approach others' customs with respect and openness rather than pushing our own views. Applejack's well-meaning but misguided attempt to impose her family's traditions on the Pie family serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of understanding and compromise. It would have been much better to invite the Pies to experience her traditions in Ponyville next year, to possibly create a space where both families could blend their customs into something new and meaningful together the following year. The portrayal of the Pie family was one of my favorite aspects of this episode. The callback to the connection between Applejack and Pinkie Pie was heartwarming, and I loved seeing the unique personalities of Pinkie's sisters. The episode beautifully conveyed that family and friendship are not just about blood relations but about the choices we make to build those bonds. Pinkie Pie’s vibrant personality, standing in contrast to her reserved family, also highlighted the idea that our individual experiences shape us more than our upbringing alone. As for the potential relationship between Marble Pie and Big Mac: while the romantic potential was there, I can't help but question its feasibility. With both characters being so quiet and reserved, it seems like their relationship might struggle to progress, though it was sweet to see. Overall, this episode successfully emphasized the importance of respecting different traditions and beliefs, even among those we care about most. It was a well-crafted story with a valuable lesson about compromise and tolerance. And as for your take on "sentimentalizing a rock", it’s a testament to the show's ability to find meaning and wholesomeness in the simplest things, which is something I absolutely appreciate this show for. Anyway, thank you for reacting to this, it was great to watch and see your take on it. 💙

I disagree but I think I’m just a hopeless romantic and want the same type of people to be with each other 😂 Always here for big mac’s journey so I’m exited to get that unveiled Ahh yes that makes sense. It’s bound to happen. It just stood out here for the first time

People do indeed ship Marble and Big Mac, but I don't agree with it. *Somepony* has to do the talking for a relationship to work. Fortunately, the show does go a different direction with Big Mac's love life, but I won't spoil how for you. Regarding Apple Bloom's deeper voice, Apple Bloom VA Michelle Creber was actually a little girl when she recorded season 1 but by this episode was well into her teens. She does a fine job of keeping the voice consistent most of the time, but every once in a while in the later seasons you can hear her maturity peek through
