Starlight Glimmer and TIME TRAVEL in MLP?!?!?!? | My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 5 Episode 25 and 26 REACTION

yes season 5 is definitely up there

DeViruZz.eXe

Sorry I meant entire season. So do people see Season 5 as one of the best seasons in the series in that top 1-3 range? Ah yes. I think tirek or sombra would be the more dangerous no doubt

Ed

To answer your question, there is no easy yes or no... I said "Season 5 finale is undoubtedly one of the best finales in the series", so its not THE best one - there is still more to come :) Also, the thing about the ongoing seasons is, that some changes happened which divided the fandom kinda like the season 3 finale did with Twilights ascension. - So its difficult to say, because you totally could like or hate it... Just one thing is for sure: it wont be your loss to watch until the very end. :) --- As for the Timelines: You reasoning is interesting, but i think that Discord would be most chaotic and interesting, because he likes to play around, he will make things crazy, but i dont think he is willing to kill for his satisfaction or let people suffer too much, because he would lose out on them as playthings with genuine reactions. Chrysalis is also interesting, because she gains nothing by killing the citizens - she will just feed on them and maybe you are able to reason enough to form a kind of symbiotic relationship: Chrysalis and her bunch feasts and rules and uses the citizens as lifestock, but you're still able to live your life the way you normally do, with the exception of sometimes going to donate some of your love... Nightmare Moon was also kinda... ok, there was no oppression, or resistance - problem will be the eternal nightcycle, because you would be unable to grow food and lots of problems will occur. Tirek will be an absolute problem, he is driven by seeking power and destroys for fun on a whim... The most dangerous is Sombra, he enslaves everyone and controls their mind through fear - everyone would be trapped with their worst fears the entire time... This is an absolutely madness...

Thank you! Trying out the braids. In a new era Man those timelines! Loved them all especially how it effected the mane 6 not defeating those crazy finales and openers. I think discord could’ve been them not reforming him and those seeds would’ve planted so without the mane 6 then he takes over. And flim flam I think they mainly just monopolize and capitalize everyone like if Disney owned everything. Ooooh I like that desert theory. You guys have mentioned that fall out thing so that would be a nice nod! Man starlight was devious with “helping” them not bully flutteryshy and using good reason for her own selfish reasons. Amazing. Beautifully said about how the hate overtook and just being friendly would change so much. And twilight’s speech was amazing and the truth. Love this for her. Yes that is true but that was only for a short amount of time. Not LITERAL YEARS AND MESSING THE SPACE TIME CONTINUUM! Man what a splendid finale that involved timelines and flashbacks and redemption. And to add on to what you said, this season was magnificent and some of the best television I’ve seen in animation. A stacked season with very few weaknesses that also contains the most emotional, complex, and abstract the series has gone. I don’t want to exactly know so I’ll ask it this way, does the fandom usually consider this season as a top 2-3 best/favorite? Then later on as we go through I’ll probably ask again at the end since I don’t want to know “oh s8 is the best” and go into it with expectations. So just a simple “yes” or “no” for my original question. And you’re right that the series STILL has so much to work with from a new potential member, a baby, EQG. It’s exciting!! I agree with starlight being an incredible villain. Might be my favorite of the series? 🤔. I liked her story and it was simple but not enough to warrant disappointment. And with the incredible way it connected to the mane 6 cutie marks I think makes it brilliant! Huh yeah when you explain it like that for AJ that makes a lot more sense. Maybe she would’ve came back but she wouldn’t have made that initial connection. I feel a lot better about my initial critique after your explanation. Thank you! I appreciate your words 😭. I’m glad you enjoyed my shock and experience with it. This was such a rollercoaster and was amazing on nearly every front. Most dangerous might be discord tbh because his twisted nature with that power, would be insanely hard and unserious. Zombra as well especially if he expands but he was practically already getting to that point. Wbu? Yes definitely have to try some MLP lists and rankings!

Ed

Hoh boy the finale to season 5... and here we go. - Some notes/thoughts/facts: - You looking good Ed :) Twilight is sure dedicated to her speech... eleven times and no end in sight... i feel you Spike 😏 Its good to see Moon Dancer again and she even seems to help Twilight with her presentation. This whole reenaction of past events of season 1 "The Cutie Mark Chronicles" about how the mane 6 got their cutie marks was such a throwback. Starlight was indeed in the crowd, and prior to that she was even seen 2 times spying on Twilight in another episodes which you missed before so we also pointed it out on Discord. There is even a great explanation by LonelyPieceOfPie about them which AtlasRedux thankfully provided us a neat link to: https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/comments/11tvin9/ And because you already have seen this via Discord i wont go much into detail here but provide it for everyone else who may read my comment here. (hopefully 😅) Anyway in Short: Episode 12, Amending Fences: Starlight is seen in a restaurant observing Twilights failed attempt to rekindle her friendship with Moondancer. This failure reinforces Starlights belief in her own ideology about equality. Episode 22, What About Discord?: Starlight hides in a bush and overhears a conversation about time travel. This introduces her to the concept and motivates her to research it, eventually leading her to discover Starswirls spell. Episode 25, The Cutie Re-Mark: Starlight listens to Twilights speech about the importance of the Rainboom and Cutie Mark magic, which gives her the final piece she needs for her plan. By now, she is no longer hiding, indicating her confidence and readiness to execute her plan... ...to go back in time and stop the first Sonic-Rainboom from happening to prevent Twilight and her friends to have a cutie mark connection and thus meeting with each other. And this results in a cascade of alternate Timelines: 1. Alternate Timeline = Sombras return = Reason this may happened: Sombra is back and since noone was able to stop him from taking over the Crystal Empire, he grew much stronger than before and even waged war against Equestria in a WWII-like scenario, with most of its resources allocated to the war effort. Ponies are drafted and transported by train to fight against the Sombra-controlled Crystal Empire. Propaganda posters and morale-boosting advertisements are also evident in this timeline. And each of our mane-ponies is doing their part: - Applejack is providing food for the war efforts - Rainbow Dash is fighting with the aerial fighters (possibly the wonderbolts) and was already badly hurt at her wings, because she lost one wing which was replaced by a steel wing (i wont question the aerodynamics of it - maybe some kind of magic is involved), her overall design is kinda badass: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/2/23/Rainbow_Dash_covered_in_battle_scars_S5E25.png - Pinkie and Maud fight as a kind of special ground-force (both never left the rock-farm which made them real strong even for earth-ponies), though the thing that doesnt may click at first is how Pinkie Pie should originally be someone who provides joy and laughter, but in this scenario she isn't or at least its not directly shown, but maybe she is providing morale-support (propaganda)... - she also never got to Ponyville to work for Mr. & Mrs. Cake and the situation is just that dire... - Fluttershy is working with domestic animals to get wool as resources - Rarity provides clothes for soldiers Twilight Sparkle: "The map is connected to the Tree of Harmony! It must sense that something isn't right!" - Again the tree of Harmony is one powerful entity it seems... Starlight Glimmer: "My village was a sanctuary of equality, where nopony's cutie mark allowed them to feel superior! It was a special place, and you and your friends took it away!" - She truly believed in her worldview and her cause and it really rubbed her the wrong way that Twilight and her Friends disrupted this sanctuary of hers Starlight Glimmer: "Now it's my turn to take something special from you! Without the rainboom, you and your friends will never form your special cutie mark bonds! Cutie marks for cutie marks! Sounds like a fair trade to me!" - not quite... she truly believes it is just a revenge against Twilight, but Twilights friends cant know about that, because they never did it in any of the alternate timelines, thus its highly questionably and just petty revenge. She is much too consumed in her hate for Twilight and her friends to realize that. But this sparks another question: Think about it - how is Twilight not directly affected by this? She must have failed her test and was never Celestia's Student to become an Alicorn. Well maybe the explanation is as simple as this: Magic and the same reason why the Map was still there... 😅 This whole conversation between Starlight, the bullies (Dumb-Bell and Hoops), Fluttershy and Twilight about how teasing is bad was just hilarious: Starlight Glimmer: "Oh, I was just reminding these two colts how hurtful teasing can be." Twilight Sparkle: "Well, don't!" 🤣 - Starlight even outsmarts her and is able to bring her point across: Starlight Glimmer: "Of course! In a world where everypony is unique, some are bound to feel more special than others. But that isn't a license to be cruel, is it?" Starlight Glimmer: "Oh, isn't it a shame we don't live in a world where everypony is equal? No one would ever tease anyone there! Wouldn't that be nice?" - You sneaky bastard 😏 Twilight Sparkle: "I know you only convinced those bullies to not tease Fluttershy to stop the rainboom!" Starlight Glimmer: "Oh, that's not true. I convinced them not to be bullies because everypony should be equal. Stopping the rainboom is just a bonus." - This whole role-reversal was way too funny... 🤣 Twilight, you are absolutely in no way creepy here... in no way ever... https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/1/12/Rainbow_Dash_nervously_saying_hello_S5E25.png Young Rainbow Dash is also the first one to notice that she is an Alicorn... Twilight Sparkle: "I just need you to fly fast enough for a sonic rainboom!" Young Rainbow Dash: "What?! I can't do that! It's just an old mare's tale!" Twilight Sparkle: "But it's not! I've seen you do it! In the future!" - Damn it Twilight you are weird again! 😅 2. Alternate Timeline = Chrysalis and her Changelings = Reason this may happened: Without twilight being there to notice impostor Cadence behavior (in Season 2 finale), Chrysalis was able to take Shining Armors Love for her and overpower Celestia as she did in the Season 2 finale and with her Changeling army. - The Chrysalis Resistance Timeline suggests that the changelings have completely conquered Canterlot and possibly all of Equestria, with the Everfree Forest being the only remaining safe haven. This implies that the changelings have rendered the world outside the Everfree uninhabitable or at least altered it so drastically that ponies have no place to hide or live without being found by changeling drones. - One thing to notice though: because Fluttershys bullies took her under their wing, she seems to be much more fierce in this timeline and not as shy as she would be otherwise. - Zecora seems to be the last bastion against Chrysalis, she even seems to recognize that something is wrong ("A selfaware future" as you call it 😄) - She even knew about the multiple timeline aspect of timetraveling. It was also cool to see Chrysalis again. This time Twilight is prepared of Starlights first strike after they returned in time and an awesome fight ensues which got every-fillies attention including Rainbow Dash and the Sonic-Rainboom is again averted. - which leads us to... 3. Alternate Timeline = Nightmare Moons comeback = Reason this may happened: Without Twilight being there to prevent Nightmare Moons return with her friends (in Season 1 premiere), Celestia was unable to fight her again because she was mentally too unstable to do so and Nightmare Moon pulled the uno reverse card to banish Celestia to the moon instead. Nightmare Moon now rules the kingdom. Unlike the previous two timelines, the ponies of Equestria fully accept their new princess, showing no signs of resistance. They appear protective of her, though it's unclear whether this stems from adoration or fear. This timeline offers fewer details compared to the others, leaving much to interpretation. - Also because Twilight and Starlight were fighting so much, Twilight is unable to cast any spells and unable to defend against the Timberwolves and flees to the "castle of the two sisters" which was rebuild and is now under Nightmare Moons reign. - Her Design changed a little, she has fangs now, which is kinda adorable? https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/e/e8/Nightmare_Moon_%22I_am_the_ruler_of_all_of_Equestria%22_S5E26.png Maybe an aftereffect of gaining enough strength after a while. Nightmare Moon: "[laughing] My sister has been imprisoned in the moon for years!" - with this (and some other indicators) its confirmed that since Season 1 at least 2-3 years were gone by. And the Celestial-Moon is indeed pretty... https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/5/53/The_moon_in_the_night_sky_S5E26.png And now its much more difficult to ascertain what have happened in the following Timelines... 4. Alternate Timeline = Tirek = Reason this may happened: Tirek just did his thing and stole every last speck of magic and without the power of friendship, noone was able to stop him... to what end... we may never know. Another encounter with Starlight: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/6/61/Starlight_Glimmer_clapping_her_hooves_S5E26.png Starlight clapping on Twilights fail, was such meme-material: https://derpibooru.org/1033878 5. Alternate Timeline = Discord = Reason this may happened: Because its Discord, duh! - Not really to question is there? 😅 And its also not much shown except that he is doing what he likes to do the most: chaos! 6. Alternate Timeline = Flim Flam Brothers = Reason this may happened: After AJ lost their farm to the brothers, they expanded and commercialized everything they can think of..? - Its more of a surprise than anything else. And maybe Fan-Service? - What do you think? And Twilight finally realizes: She cant stop Starlight with her magic, but through reason... Starlight Glimmer: "Oh, next I suppose you'll tell me that "the fate of all of Equestria hangs in the balance"!" Twilight Sparkle: "It does!" Starlight Glimmer: "Spare me your overblown ego! No group of friends, not even Princess Twilight's, is that important!" - Well i would doubt it too in her place... and Twilight had to take Starlight with her to... 7. Alternate Timeline = post-apocalyptic Equestria = What apocalypse happened here isn't shown, but the eerieness and quiet athmosphere without any music in a barren colorless landscape with windy ashes which has neither sun nor moon apparent is saying very much. https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/5/53/Twilight%2C_Spike%2C_and_Starlight_on_the_barren_landscape_S5E26.png BTW.: Despite its unclear what exactly happened here. Some think this could be a reference/nod to a well known post-apocalyptic fan-fiction called "Fallout: Equestria" that came up after Season 1, which is a crossover between "Fallout" and MLP and had later an entire Worldbuilding on its own with its own followership. I also read it and its one of my most favorite fan-fictions out there, it is quite a bit darker, but still contains the charm the ponies and the Equestrian World with its magic is able to offer. - If you want to take a look at it, you can do it here: https://www.fimfiction.net/story/119190/1/ There are several audiobooks about it, one to mention is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zo0V3Q1KAKs&list=PLqkyti4niqGzGvFBqzKGrVB9n9Zy41_iP And now Starlight shows her origin story which was quite surprisingly simple... but effective. Starlight Glimmer: "Ugh! What's so special about your friends?! How can a group of ponies that are so different be so important?!" Twilight Sparkle: "The differences between me and my friends are the very things that make our friendship strong!" Starlight Glimmer: "I thought Sunburst and I were the same. But we turned out different, and it tore our friendship apart!" Twilight Sparkle: "So try again! Make new friends! And if something that you can't control happens that changes things, work through it together! That's what friendship is! And it's not just my friendships that are important to Equestria! Everypony's are! When yours ended, it led us here. But just imagine all the others that are out there waiting for you if you just give them a chance!" Twilight is finally able to convince Starlight to stop and trust her, all she ever wanted was friends all along, but her trauma of losing someone dear to her due to a cutie mark again prevented her from doing so. Thus she build up a society which detested and abandoned cutie marks as her safe-haven which was later destroyed by Twilight and her friends in her eyes, which led to this point... Twilight Sparkle: "I think it's more than that. Friendship connects all of Equestria, and undoing one group of friends made its magic less powerful." - "I've been thinking a lot about how badly Equestria fared without just one group of friends. Because even when one friendship dies, the results can be disastrous." - Thats why saying it like that hits way to much home and is also very much true. - Hate just destroys everything... if people were much friendlier, a lot of problems could be prevented... Twilight Sparkle: "Starting is easy! All you have to do is make a friend! And you've got seven of them right here." - So do we have the Mane 7 now? 😏 And Starlight is now a student under Twilight? - This is kinda big. Oh common Ed, you know there was already a time-travel episode ("It's About time." (S2E20)), Starlight even uses the same spell that was mentioned there before, but she modified it for her needs. 😆 The only song here called "Friends Are Always There For You" is such a great harmonizing and meaningful song. It had such a cool vibe to it, even the lyrics "Friends can change the world, you see" and the 4th wall break of directly looking at the viewer was something which was unprecedented before and made clear that this is not just the case in this fantasy cartoon but can be applied to the real world aswell. - Also, it was kinda an acknowledgment and thank you for the fandom. - but this and the overall vibe was an indicatiion for some that this was the final episode of MLP... - But alas, Season 6 came right around the corner - a crisis was averted. 😅 I also loved how they showed Starlight doing amends to "Ourtown" after the disastrous event in the premiere where she left on a sour note. Anyway here are some good remixes of it: JoinedTheHerd Remix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6Xp8B6VOIE Spectra Remix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiA3GG_N3Go --- The Season 5 finale is undoubtedly one of the best finales in the series. It skillfully handled the complex topic of time travel, creating a compelling narrative where the main plot revolves around Starlight preventing Twilight from forming cutie mark friendships with her companions. The foreshadowing and execution were spot on. - I loved how the episode showcased different timelines, each featuring its own recurring villain. This was fantastic fan service, even though some villains got more screen time than others. The ambitious storytelling and emotional moments made this finale stand out. Starlight Glimmer was an exceptionally overpowered villain. Her motivations were deeply rooted in a childhood trauma, leading her to build a cutie mark-free community, to cope with her pain, albeit with elements of brainwashing and indoctrination. Twilight's disruption of her community turned Starlight's focus and animosity towards her. Starlight’s hatred for Twilight was fueled by Twilight’s interference with her dream and she spied on Twilight several times, seeking revenge, and eventually broke into the Canterlot library to steal Starswirl the Bearded's time spell. Starlight not only perfected but also extended this time spell to prevent Twilight and her friends from ever getting their cutie marks and meeting each other. However, she was unaware that her actions would cause a cascade of effects, leading to the potential destruction of Equestria and more. Starlight's immense power was evident as she could even self-levitate. Her strength as a unicorn was so formidable that even Twilight, an Alicorn and the Element of Magic, couldn't defeat her through conventional means. Ultimately, Twilight had to use persuasion and empathy to reach Starlight and save everything. Your comparison to "Legend of Korra" with Aman was absolutely right, its kinda the same thing just in another setting. And you are not the only one: Starlights redemption got flak for being too fast aswell as that Starlights backstory was too simple and in parts even disappointing for some people, which i can understand, but still think its not as easy as it seems - because most impressions that are happening in young years can cascade in the same manner as the timetravel did, resulting in bigger problems often for oneself. - But in this case, because Starlight is as giftet as she is, it resulted in a much bigger problem, which involved others. As for her redemption i will just say: Sit down and drink some tea and wait for what is to come... 😁 Also i understand your confusion as to why Applejack was at Ponyville, but they all would have ended where they were destined to be, but with other facets and under other circumstances - thats why their ultimate talents and cutie marks will resurface again with the exception that they didn't meet with each other as friends. And as much as Applejack was originally in Manehattan staying with the Orange family at first, she was still never contend with it. She definitely would have gone back to her family in Ponyville at a later time than originally intended, but have missed out on bonding with the others of the Mane 6. Anyway, this concludes the finale of Season 5. It highlights how far Twilight has come since the beginning. This also ends THE season of redemption, cutie marks, and identity. - We have been through a lot of stuff here. The role of the new castle and the friendship-map has been pivotal, guiding Twilight and her friends on numerous adventures that emphasize just how important each of their elements and talents are. The Cutie Mark Crusaders achieving their cutie marks was a deeply satisfying milestone, marking the end of their long journey and the beginning of new ones. We've witnessed significant redemptions, from Gilda, Diamond Tiara to Starlight Glimmer, each showing the power of forgiveness and personal growth. Twilight making amends with her old friends was a touching reminder of her roots and all the bonds that have shaped her. It was also gratifying to see what most of the side characters are doing, adding depth and continuity to the series making it a lively endeavor. Princess Luna’s resolution of her own insecurity by being forgiven and acknowledged by everyone was beautiful, symbolizing healing and acceptance. And who could forget Big Mac, who was going out of his way to make Apple Bloom happy and has finally shown that he has much more to say than just "yep" or "nope"... 😅 - Discord's journey to learning about friendship continues to be entertaining, though he still has a long way to go. 😅 Also we learned that Twilight is going to be an aunt - whatever may arise of this 😏 With all these developments, you can't help but be curious about what will happen next. Season 5 has wrapped up beautifully, setting the stage for even more exciting adventures and emotional growth in the seasons to come... 🤩 - Your Freakouts here were absolutely great again! - You are definitely one of the best reactors i have seen. - Thank you very much for reacting and going through this adventure with us and providing your view on all of this 💙😁 P.S.: The consequences of time travel and alternate timelines, aswell as the plausibility and execution of these scenarios were debated much in the fandom, so what do you think: Which alternative timeline would be the most dangerous and for what reason? btw.: A ranking of episodes / villains would be most interesting.

DeViruZz.eXe

Except they DID go on to do the same things, generally. They just got repurposed by the war effort. Rainbow Dash appears to be in the military. The Wonderbolts ARE a military organization, we just see their much more fun peacetime operations in the prime timeline. Rarity is still making clothes, she's just forced to make uniforms. Fluttershy is still caring for animals, she's just having to raise sheep for the wool for the uniforms. The only thing resembling an inconsistency is Pinkie Pie, who appears to be actually fighting rather than, for example, entertaining the troops. But perhaps that is just to show us just how dire the Sombra war is. It's not the only piece of evidence of that either. Not sure if you noticed, but Rainbow Dash has a metal wing in the Sombra timeline. That means she somehow lost a wing, got fitted with a prosthesis, *learned how to fly again*, and returned to the fighting, all in the same war. To me, that sounds like a war that doesn't have time for entertainment. To sum up, the Rainboom not happening didn't change the six' individual cutie mark destinies. It just stopped them from coming together. And THAT in turn is what changed the timeline. And it is the bleakness of that timeline that in turn made the bigger outward changes to their individual lives

sjones17515

Yes yes yes! We have very similar thoughts. They sure do not miss and continue to impress me after time and time again thinking they’re done. I get it for the story but this felt like the only oversight but it wasn’t a huge one because I also like the heartlessness of the farm vs how we know it to be. Sombra, changelings, ahhhhhhhh! It was amazing and very well told Starlight is amazing. She is diabolical, powerful, and committed! Love her back story and time traveling strengths. Didn’t know Imon was in MLP 😂. A little quick on her redemption but I guess I’m not as forgiving as ponies but as you said weird that discord isn’t given this same treatment 😪. Fantastic finale that further cements this friendship and the importance and collateral impact on Equestria 🫡

Ed

Beautiful season finale, in my opinion they don’t miss when it comes to these stories and two part finales, I was thinking the same about applejack it would’ve been interesting to see what she would’ve been like if she’d had stayed in manehatten she could’ve turned out similar to rarity, because If you go back watch the cutie mark chronicles she sounds similar to rarity when she’s talking at the dinner table and also she also said wanted to move there and it would help her find her purpose so I think you might be right about her staying there but who knows maybe something else made her come back and live on the farm, time travel is so interesting and I’m so happy they went into it, I loved the war with king sombra, it was so awesome to see rainbow dash fighting did you notice her metal wing and punk hair ? It was so cool, loved pinkie and maud like that too, seeing all the timelines was so cool, also film flam taking over caught me off guard lol so they could’ve been true villains lmao, we just saw all the villains in the show which was fan service but it was done well and I enjoyed it, as for starlight she is probably my favorite villain, she’s very human/pony like which makes her relatable and a lot of people could see themselves in her and how she holds onto the past and a grudge against cutie marks how one traumatic event like that could change your whole personality and views on forward, a few people like her backstory but I think it’s one of the best, it just makes sense why she thinks cutie marks make ponys special and that they think they’re better than everyone else, very similar to the legend of korra it’s exactly what I was thinking too! as for her redemption it is a little fast but I think it was beautiful how forgiving ponies are lol if they are able to forgive that fast than that shows you how nice they can be, but then again the mane besides fluttershy wasn’t that forgiving with discord 😂 but maybes that’s cause he wasn’t a pony idk

Pinkie_applepie

Yeah sorry. It’s a bit late. Was thinking of sunset. Eh maybe but I’m just going off of what they presented since everyone else went on to not do what they are known to do. Just seemed like an inconsistency and also saying she’d always return is a bit of a stretch or sort of the opposite of me but over-looking into it. It’s not a big deal since the story was great and the apple farm didn’t have the usual heart and labor that it’s known for. So maybe she would return but it would come back and be industrialized. Definitely she’s a powerful force. Seems it’s like an early discord situation where they keep her at arms length to try and reform them. And I also don’t think she’s fully redeemed as it feels super relatable to Diamond tiara’s case. And even discord turned heel with tirek and betrayed Fluttershy so definitely not out of the question for her. A bit of a spoiler perhaps but I think anything is up in the air and it’s right to be suspicious after everything she has done this season, cult leader, time traveling destroyer is crazy 😂

Ed

First, fix your title. It's Starlight Glimmer, not Shimmer. Though you wouldn't be the first person to mix up hers and Sunset Shimmer's names. Your Applejack criticism is oversimplified. Yes, the Rainboom is what triggered her to return to Sweet Apple Acres from Manehattan in the prime timeline, but that doesn't automatically mean she isn't ever going to go back in another timeline. Applejack comes from a long line of apple farmers, and was a complete fish out of water in Manehattan. She may not have figured it out that day, and she may not have gotten the special bond with her friends, but she was always going to find her way back home eventually in just about any timeline. As for the speed of Starlight's redemption, you're definitely not alone in thinking that. But think about this. Twilight couldn't defeat her. She had to convince Starlight to stop on her own. If they attempt to punish her, what's to stop her from saying "screw this" and escaping and doing who knows what? Keeping her close and helping her become a force for good is really not only the best they can do for her but probably the safest thing they can do for Equestria. Also, I hope this isn't too much of a spoiler, but it's a bit early to assume her redemption arc is fully complete.
