EQG continues to impress and bring a good yet differing atmosphere to the MLP universe. As the Equestria Games in my eyes was a well known failure, this one manages to create something riveting with its focus on Sci-Twi’s ultimatum with the headmaster of Crystal Prep, Cinch. As it is revealed that Sci-Twi never intended to go to Canterlot High, it puts her in a new light as her coy self needs to discover the mystery of spells and magic using her device by getting close to the group of girls who themselves are discovering their marks and personalities throughout the games. This is a great push and pull as the understanding of themselves are simultaneously getting absorbed which corrupts Sci-Twi. Another strength with not only EQG but this film is the continued presence of Sunset Shimmer. This film puts Sci-Twi into a familiar role of being consumed by greed and knowledge much like SS in the first rendition of EQGs. The mirroring and parallels is beautiful and the bond of everyone spreads once the headmaster’s identity and self-centered goals come to light. Then the bloopers had some noteworthy theories of dimension hopping that might be troublesome or perhaps it’s just all fun. Either way, this film was another great installment and further shows this show can stand by itself alongside the impressive MLP FiM universe. As long as Sunset Shimmer is alive and well mixing in some bizarre developments in the high school underlayer, they got something here. 8/10
