MLP Season 5 Review

This season of MLP might just be one of the best not just animation but television I have experienced in my 28 years of existence. This season includes some of the most mature, abstract, emotional, and satisfying payoffs in the series alongside with the inclusion of major character developments and redemption, deep cut continuity which consistently oozes of well written, honest and relatable narratives and messages that will leave you impressed and inspired. Its identity is simply unexpected brilliance and vulnerable; so much so that it must be commended and praised. This season furthers the cutie mark element of the show which soon becomes instrumental to the main antagonist Starlight Shimmer with her hatred for cutie marks which then becomes a story of resentment that she has latched onto and goes to time altering lengths to prevent the occurrence of the mane 6. To contrast this, one of the pinnacles and long awaited journeys meet their end as the CMC poetically discover their cutie marks. This encapsulates the energy this season had for the secondary and background characters as the heavy emphasis allows the concepts and allegories for death(RD), guilt(Luna), identity(Troubleshoes), lost community(Gilda), brushing aside(Twilight), jealousy(Discord), and many other lessons to flourish and resonate. This season commits and challenges friendship and togetherness in expansive and new eye opening ways that even to this day still surprises me. I look back on this season and I’m dumbfounded on the quality and experience that I am having. I see people look at me like a psycho for saying it’s an amazing show and how deep and thoughtful it can be. While still containing some blemishes with a few episodes, it was hardly enough to truly deter the insane quality each episode brought. The way the season showed its redemption with characters I reviled, contained one of my most favorite villains, brought its A game with its climatic bombs, consistent episode spread and some of the best runs from episode to episode, and the heartfelt and well thought out messages making their mark, this season will forever be remembered as one of the most enjoyable pieces of media I have consumed. And there’s still so much left. Also shout out to the season of Rarity! 9.5-9/10
