My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – Legend of Everfree Review

Back to back EQG projects for the first time. This time, the girls are going to camp Everfree as they look to get away from the magic and chaos that has plagued them for three consecutive occasions. My love for Sunset Shimmer is in full display as her empathetic breakthroughs compliments Sci-Twi’s reluctant and traumatized mentality as she fears of awakening Nightmare Twilight. Camp brings a hearty and adventurous feeling with the undertone of activities and romance which is welcome and fresh for the entire series. One of the incredible parts about this film is how the series sort of picks up the blueprint for season 1 and 2 of MLP as they bring their form of the elements of harmony as the crack in the statue is fueling all of their destructive and confusing camp experiences. This soon became a message about suppressing one’s bad parts, ugly side, and unwanted behaviors which then get twisted to embracing them which in turn will help us grow and be better. These are the great parts of this film as the more psychological and friendship side of things intrigued me and stood out. The major problem with this film was the repetitive use of the previous movies’ motive and climaxes. The story becomes predictable and loses a lot of originality and starts to feel more formulaic which negatively separates it from the bunch. For as good as the more emotional parts are, the entire Everfree villains took me out of the film. Need the series to pivot to something a bit more interesting but i am digging the personality and tone of it. 7/10
