I get what you mean with the shift. And yes it’s a big step for him to see they are confused by it all. I was disappointed in them but when you frame it in that maturity lens, it’s genius!

2024-08-07 05:30:34 +0000 UTCThis ep honestly feels like a bit of a shift in the show to me, in a way I really really love. Steven seeing the gems worrying about not being adequate enough to raise him well and then putting his own feelings about the situation aside in order to reassure and appease Them demonstrates a change in his maturity level. It shows the shift in Steven’s psyche of him starting to realize that the gems dont fully know what they’re doing. I see it as the start of Steven’s childhood innocence fading away and the start of him shouldering the gems’ burdens, even if they’re not aware of it and even if this is the only real example of such so far. I really love the writing in this episode.
