Reading this made me see starlight’s improvement this season. Sunburst, Trixie, hearths eve, and a future episode as you should know 😉
But these episodes will always have great songs and aesthetics. The fiction inside fiction meta ness was super fun. Love when ponies get new roles and personalities. Also seeing Luna!!!
Ngl, I think this episodes also makes me want to be festive. Much like the pinkie and AJ epsiode, to celebrate the traditions, be present, and happy around your loved ones. It’s something I’m more reflecting on now but this episode did a great job with starlight’s ignorance. BUT it was also molded by her teacher which I think I went into as that is the most critical part in a persons life.
I’ll definitely try to sneak in a rewatch this Christmas!

- Some notes/thoughts/facts: -
Ahhh Hearths Warming time is one of the best times in Equestria, I love the christmas theme here!
And we begin with the first song "Hearth's Warming Eve Is Here Once Again" which shows us, this is another musical episode! And this time about "Hearth's Warming Eve" - I love how it just oozes that its Christmas time again 🥰
Also best sontgtext ever:
"A day that's filled with songs to sing"
"Ding-dong, ding-dong-ding" 🤣
- I love that!
Derpy's playing with the Christmas star for the tree after accidentally breaking the original decoration! 🤣 And once again, we get to see plenty of ponies in a festive mood. - It's all so delightful! I love every bit of it!

https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/1/18/Derpy_at_top_of_the_tree_glowing_bright_S6E8.png
Rarities singing is still done by Kazumi Evans, i dont hear any differences in professionalism, she always had been a really good singer. - Maybe its because its sung in a choir... that could be it.
You are right, the last one was where the Apples met the Pie-Family and it was about Hearth's Warming traditions.
Starlight skipping Hearth's Warming? Not if Twilight had anything to say about it...
And we experience another Hearth's Warming tale, once again brought to life by the alter egos of the main characters. The story, titled "A Hearth's Warming Tail," is an adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novella, "A Christmas Carol.":
- Starlight Glimmer/Snowfall Frost: Ebenezer Scrooge
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/2/2a/Snowfall_Frost%27s_first_appearance_S6E8.png
- Rainbow Dash/Snowdash: Bob Cratchit
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/d/d1/Snowdash_sweeping_up_S6E8.png
- Applejack: The Ghost of Christmas Past
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/6/63/Past_spins_out_a_lasso_S06E08.png
- Pinkie Pie: The Ghost of Christmas Present
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/1/18/Spirit_of_HW_Presents%27_tail_twitching_S6E8.png
I love all their designs - these were particularly impressive!
Twilight Sparkle: "[narrating] It was said of Snowfall that she was almost as studied as Star Swirl the Bearded. Almost, since everypony knows that Star Swirl was an expert at everything [getting excited] from transfiguration, dimensional calibration, teleportation—" - Now we know who she is simping for 😅
Starlight Glimmer: "That silly legend is the problem! Telling everypony that "singing songs and being nice" will solve anything? I've spent years studying magic, and that's not how it works."
Rainbow Dash: "I think you might be missing the point." - Yes she definitely did...
The next song "Say Goodbye to the Holiday" is an eerie and creepy villainous song (YES!) about destroying the very holiday which is protecting them from the Windigos... - Kelly Sheridan as Starlight Glimmer's singer did a really good job here.
You are right: the duck doll had the same color scheme as Perry the Platypus from the series Phineas and Ferb.
Starlight Glimmer: "Wait a minute. Snowfall doesn't like Hearth's Warming Eve so she decides to cast a spell to get rid of it altogether? That seems a little extreme." 👀
Spike: "[muttering] Says the pony who tried to make everypony the same by replacing their cutie marks with equal signs. [sips cocoa]" - Blunt as ever Spike! 🤣
Twilight Sparkle: "I think what Spike is trying to say is that everypony has their reasons for doing things."
- No, i am sure Spike meant it the way he said it 😅
And another song called "The Seeds of the Past (part 1 & 2)" which is sung by Applejack! And you are right, we seldom get solo songs from her - it's a great one!
I like how the first part is about the cheerful innocence of youth, while the second part is about the chosen path due to a wrong influence which led to Snowfall to building up walls against Hearth's Warming.
Snowfall Frost's teacher "Professor Flintheart" is btw. modeled after "Severus Snape" from Harry Potter.
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/f/f2/Professor_Flintheart_%22it%27s_your_choice%22_S6E8.png
- And that guy didn't like Hearth's Warming either and made a big impression into Snowfalls personality and a dire one at that.
Applejack: "Then some distress, words so careless
Standin' there, you don't know what to do
Feelin' helpless, you can't make it hurt less
So you go and change your point of view"
As a young kid, influences are the most important factor of growing up.
Pinkie Pie: "[reverberating] Snowfall Frost! It is I, the Spirit of Hearth's Warming Presents!"
- Its Pinkie, it had to be "presents" 😅
Pinkie Pie: "My Spirit of Hearth's Warming Presents Sense is going off! That means a song is coming on!" 🙄😅
Yeah and that song is "Pinkie's Present" - a nice swingy happy-go-lucky song about the meaning of Hearth's Warming.
Here, have nice Remix of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZfvuuG7Wyo
Twilight Sparkle: "[singsong, as Pinkie Pie] And the reason is to be with your friends!"
- I thing Tara Strong had a blast impersonating Pinkie here, considering she originally auditioned as the voice for Pinkie Pie and Applejack. 😏
Spikes little cocoa-pause was intended to aligned with the channels advertisement section.
I love Fluttershy's and Rarity's design as "Flutterholly" and "Merry":
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/f/f7/Snowdash_%22Hearth%27s_Warming_Eve_is_just_an_excuse%22_S06E08.png
The ghost of Hearth's Warming Yet-to-Come is none other than Luna herself - It was a huge surprise! The following song "Luna's Future" fits really great with her and shows us a truly dark future, rivaling the one that happened in the Season 5 finale in its apocalyptic feeling and darkness:
"The future should be filled with magic
Dreams and wishes brought to life
But the days ahead are dark and tragic
No time for hope when all is strife"
If the overall hope is devoid, everything will go to hell... in form of Windigo's in this case.
I absolutely love this song... and Lunas Design here - she's so gorgeous!
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/0/07/Yet_to_Come_blows_off_the_phantom_ponies_S06E08.png
Btw. Luna was originally sung by Rarity's singing voice Kazumi Evans in S4-finale, but here Luna is sung by "Aloma Steele". There is a really nice remix of that:
Jyc Row's orchestral remix https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huxRCcr65_I
Twilight Sparkle: "[narrating] And from then on, it was always said of all the Hearth's Warming Eve celebrations, Snowfall's was the Hearth's Warmingest." - Hearth's Warmingest, never thought that would be a word 😅
Its great to see that Starlight doesn't hide and decides to partake in the festivity:
"Sometimes you just let go of the past
Enjoy the present while it lasts
And really it's not that much to ask
With good friends by your side"
- and with that message, the last song starts, a reprise of the first one "Hearth's Warming Eve Is Here Once Again".
And that are a lot of friends that are celebrating with them in the castle: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/a/a9/Ponies_sing_together_in_the_Castle_of_Friendship_S6E8.png

That said, we're treated to another delightful folklore story with "A Hearth's Warming Tale", which adds some wonderful world-building. This episode is a clear homage to "A Christmas Carol", though it leans heavily on a familiar trope that has been used many times before.
The episode is filled with beautifully crafted musical numbers that enhance the narrative. Starlight Glimmer's struggle to understand Hearth's Warming Eve as a valuable holiday is mirrored by Twilight's story protagonist, Snowfall Frost. This character provides a fresh perspective on the holiday's deeper meaning, one that is more closely aligned with Christmas itself compared to the original tale of the pony tribes. It's a thoughtful exploration of how our surroundings, peers, and mentors shape our decisions during our formative years, influencing our future paths. The episode also serves as a poignant reminder of the true value behind presents and gifts, emphasizing the importance of celebrating the people in our lives and cherishing time with family and friends.
For Starlight, the story becomes a valuable lesson in opening up and embracing social connections, which is a crucial aspect of friendship. The reimagining of the characters through the folklore was particularly enjoyable, with visually stunning designs and a brilliant choice in casting Starlight Glimmer as Snowfall Frost, the "Ebenezer Scrooge" figure. Luna's appearance as the Ghost of Christmas "Yet-to-Come" in a dark, foreboding future was both chilling and fitting - a fantastic creative choice.
And talking about the folklore: No episode would be complete without Twilight finding a way to mention Starswirl the Bearded’s greatness at every opportunity! 😅
The music in this episode is exceptional, and it's no surprise that Daniel Ingram was nominated for a 2017 Leo Award for Best Musical Score in an Animation Program or Series for his work on this episode. The songs and overall production quality of the animations are truly worthy of high praise.
The only downside is that this cozy, Christmas-themed episode aired in May instead of December.

Thank you for reacting to this - it was great to watch!
Also thank you, that you readjusted the sound for me. 💙😁
P.S.:

Huh. It does seem okay but maybe the background does stand out too much. And maybe I accidentally enhanced some of the audio but I’m unsure. Sorry 😪. I’ll be better about that next time. I can try fixing it and maybe post it on google drive if you want it adjusted
Thank you for letting me know!

Am i wrong or is the audio messed up here? Your mic is really loud, and the episode was way too quiet... the ambient background noise overshadows the whole audio of the episode... 😣
EDIT: Ed provided me a link to a readjusted version - thank you very much:

The songs were great!!! And loved the different characters forms

Love this Christmas episode, I watch it every Christmas, it’s really cozy and just a nice episode, they had to use villain starlight again for snowfall which works so well definitely had parallels to her past wanting to get rid of cutie marks, I loved all the music, my favorite was Lunas and Apple Jacks although they are great
