It was indeed.

This one definitely hits the diversity and embracing the culture. Seeing how critics can cloud the authenticity of an establishment and even gentrify it to an extent. One of then first times both sides misunderstood the assignment and it was refreshing!!

- Some notes/thoughts/facts: - That is one hell of a neat looking spell: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/8/8a/Twilight_and_Starlight_pour_magic_into_the_thrones_S6E12.png Pinkie Pie: "No, Twilight and Twilight in Twilight's castle!" - thats quite a mouthful... https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/1/15/Twilight%27s_double_cutie_marks_float_over_Twilight%27s_castle_S6E12.png Do you think the second Cutie Mark was a reference to Sci-Twi? 😏 Rarity: "[chuckles nervously] Well, maybe not too far away. An adventure somewhere that has modern conveniences would be preferable. [gasps] Canterlot! This is wonderful! I can check the boutique!" - (reference to "Canterlot Boutique" S5E14) "Perhaps there'll be some social events that we can attend!" - (reference to "Sweet and Elite" S2E9) "[gasps] I'll have to pack extra outfits! What will I wear?!" Pinkie Pie: "Y'know, some ponies get excited about the silliest things." 🤣 It is indeed the first Pinkie and Rarity combination in a friendship quest. Pinkie Pie: "Oh, Rarity, you don't find a friendship problem. It finds you. We just need to go with the flow, and eventually, kablam! We get friendship problem'd right between the eyes." - Pinkie is too real sometimes... kind of as if she knew what is going to happen So thats how Pinkie is tasting food (and the animators are able to be lazy? 😋😅) - https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/b/b1/Pinkie_dives_onto_her_plate_face-first_S6E12.png - https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/0/0f/Pinkie_eating_her_food_face-first_again_S6E12.png I like the eastern Indian decorum of the "Tasty Treat" restaurant and i like the designs of Saffron Masala and Coriander Cumin: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/8/88/Saffron_Masala_%22around_our_guests%22_S6E12.png Rarity: "The flow has led us here! This is our mission! [to Saffron and Coriander] We are going to get you a three-hoof rating and save your restaurant! I can get Zesty Gourmand here!" - Hm... is that a really good idea? Rarity: "Oh, a tweak here, a tuck there, some slight modifications to the menu. [laughs nervously] We just need the place to feel more cosmopolitan." - firstly... a SLIGHT modification?! Rarity you completely revamped it... Also, "cosmopolitan" could have been done in another way... to retain some of the original charm... "We will get those hooves by making this place feel just like all of the other restaurants on Restaurant Row!" - VERSUS - "Rarity's gonna make sure that The Tasty Treat is the most unique and beautiful restaurant in Canterlot!" 😅 The song "It's Gonna Work" draws inspiration from classic Bollywood film musicals. It's a vibrant, pop-culture-infused track with distinct Indian elements. While the visuals may feel slightly repetitive, the catchiness of the song suggests that this might be a deliberate stylistic choice. - If you like there are some good remixes of it: Segments Of life (Post-Hardcore Remix): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZNBVLHoKQY Delta Brony Remix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yksxxnCKso JTH Remix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3egPnH4atyg It seems there's been a misunderstanding. Her dad wasn't giving up on the restaurant because he wanted it to be like every other place; it was because no one was coming to eat there. He agreed to follow Rarity's suggestions simply because she convinced him it was the right thing to do. Saffron Masala: "This isn't what I wanted! I wanted Canterlot to like us for us!" - exactly this! Pinkie Pie: "Rarity, how could you ruin the restaurant?!" Rarity: "I thought you said you could pack the place with ponies no matter what!" Pinkie Pie: "You said you would make the restaurant better..." Rarity: [gasps] Pinkie Pie: "...so I guess we both didn't know what we were talking about!" - there is your clash that you always wanted Ed 😋 Pinkie Pie: "What kind of food expert doesn't want flavor?! That's insane!" - That truly is insane... Zesty Gourmand presents an intriguing case... yet she even embodies the dull sense of conformity. After their confrontation and the missed opportunity with Zesty, the group reflects, and Rarity finally understands what needs to be done. - They each were doing the wrong job. There are multiple pony-versions of real celebrity chefs at the second grand reopening: "Gourmand Ramsay" as "Gordon Ramsay" https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/4/4e/Gourmand_Ramsay_ID_S6E12.png "Coral Bits" as "Cat Cora" https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/0/08/Coral_Bits_ID_S6E12.png Jamie Oliver https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/0/01/Shrimp_Cuisine_ID_S6E12.png Chris Cosentino: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/3/31/UUS9_ID_S6E12.png Art Ginsburg: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/c/cc/UUS10_ID_S6E12.png Julia Child: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/a/a6/UUM5_ID_S6E12.png Rachael Ray: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/a/af/Rachel_Hay_ID_S6E12.png Clarissa Dickson Wright https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/d/d9/UEM1_ID_S6E12.png Zesty Gourmand: "They can't tell you what food you can eat!" Rarity: "No, we can't, and neither can you! Nopony has the right to tell these ponies what to think! Zesty, you have very... specific..." Pinkie Pie: "And very strange!" Rarity: "Yes, and very strange opinions about food, and that's your right. But just because you like your food a certain way, there is no reason to tell these ponies that they need to do the same!" - Nice message --- The story begins with the repair of the Cutie Map, which had been tampered with in the Season 5 finale. The map soon assigns Rarity and Pinkie Pie a friendship mission that takes them to Canterlot, where they encounter a culinary crisis affecting the city's elite restaurant scene. The Canterlot culinary world is dominated by Zesty Gourmand, a well-known food critic whose stringent, narrow views on cuisine have caused many restaurants to conform to her standards. Zesty's three-hoof ratings determine success, and restaurants strive to meet her bland, restrictive preferences in hopes of earning her approval. Zesty is portrayed as the antagonist of the episode, with her influence stifling creativity and diversity in Canterlot's food culture - I like how you drew a comparison to the food critic in Ratatouille or a harsh Yelp reviewer. 😅 However, the true friendship problem lies with Saffron Masala and her father, Coriander Cumin, owners of The Tasty Treat, a restaurant that celebrates Indian-inspired cuisine. Their dream of running a successful restaurant together has hit a rough patch. Coriander has become disheartened by the lack of success, while Saffron remains determined to stay true to their passion for cooking and sharing their unique flavors. Without Zesty's approval and lacking the sought-after three-hoof rating, their restaurant struggles, and their relationship is strained. Rarity, in her effort to help, initially tries to transform The Tasty Treat to conform to the elite standards of Canterlot in order to win Zesty's approval. This approach, however, strips the restaurant of its unique cultural identity. Which is surprising given Rarity's usual appreciation for individuality, that she had to learn the hard way in episode "Canterlot Boutique" with Sassy Saddles mass-design idea. But her attempt to conform is motivated by a desire to help the business succeed in a challenging environment. After this approach fails, Rarity realizes that success comes from embracing the restaurant's uniqueness rather than conforming to the norm. She also understands that instead of relying on Zesty's approval, she could have used her own popularity and connections in Canterlot to attract customers... Meanwhile, Pinkie Pie, who has an innate understanding of individuality and creativity due to her love of parties, sees from the beginning that The Tasty Treat's distinctiveness is its greatest strength. However, her first attempt to bring in customers also fails, as she is not well-known in Canterlot, where reputation holds great influence. Pinkie's second approach, which encourages Saffron and Coriander to embrace their restaurant's cultural roots and authenticity, proves to be the solution to their problem. Together with Rarity, they throw a grand reopening that highlights the Indian-inspired cuisine and atmosphere, winning over customers and saving the restaurant. This resolution underscores the importance of staying true to oneself and one's passions. The episode shines in how it swaps the typical roles for Rarity and Pinkie, highlighting their complementary strengths. The episode's resolution also mends the relationship between Saffron and Coriander. In a heartfelt moment, they reconcile by acknowledging the real reason they opened the restaurant - to share their love of cooking and create something together, just as they did when Saffron was a child. This realization rekindles their passion and strengthens their bond as father and daughter. Overall, this episode delivers a meaningful lesson about rejecting conformity and embracing what makes you unique. Rarity's initial belief that success comes from meeting elite standards is turned around by Pinkie's insight, showing that authenticity and individuality are far more valuable. Zesty Gourmand is portrayed as an exaggerated critic, symbolizing the danger of imposing narrow, rigid standards that suppress creativity—a subtle commentary on critics and celebrities dictating trends. With a catchy song, engaging humor, and well-crafted characters like Saffron Masala and Coriander Cumin, this episode is both entertaining and thought-provoking. It offers a touching story about following your dreams, the importance of individuality, and the joy of shared passions. - Anyway, thank you for your reaction - I enjoyed it. 💙
