Loool. Just a falsetto 😂
SUNSHINE SUNSHINE!! FINALLY!!
Yes a bit fast but I also think that everyone seeing that he was younger and also not posing as a threat showed the acceptance. We know this stigma doesn’t get stopped after a musical number so fast but we get what they’re were doing.
Spike making a biiiiiig jump in his importance and impact!! It’s been awesome to see.
Yeah he’s not going to suddenly expose and try to make peace when he knows how frantic everyone is.
Yes a speech would have been better BUT it’s MLP, you know a song is coming 😂
The changelings! They’re back and it’s pretty awesome but an important stepping stone. And you’re right that we got much more info on their species. And we shall see if this means anything for the rest of the season 🤔 😉
Love the outside perspective and him being influenced by that. Much like gabby which is upcoming, the impact is sometimes indirect!
What do you mean it was awkward? 😂😂

- Some notes/thoughts/facts: -
This is an absolute sweet voice, at first i thought you made some kind of voice-over, but it was actually you 😅
Spikes disguises in this episode are hilarious...
And Spike has a doll of Rarity!? - I dont want to know...
Twilight Sparkle: "I've got a bad feeling about this."
- When do people... ah I meant ponies stop saying that?
Cadence and Twilight doing the dance again! YES! 🥰
Not just you... everyone was waiting for this!
So there was a changeling seen in the Crystal Empire... maybe it was the one that flew in in the end of the premiere?
Aside the Season 5 finale (and the "Slice of Life"-episode) we didn't see any notable appearance of chrysalis and/or her minions since the Season 2 finale.
Shining Armor: "He'll be safe with our guards."
Spike: "Or will your guards be safe with me?"
- Where is my facepalm emoji if I need one?
Separation... always a good thing to do! It's horror-movie-approved 👍
The aura of magic is not perceivable by anyone - only by trained high-class magic-oriented unicorns.
That's one love addicted changeling here 😅
Too much love and kindness seems to make changelings loose control. This was first established in one of the MLP-Books that came out - which is interesting.
"Christal Hoof", for a name made up out of seen objects it wasn't so bad...
Your comparison to the Dragons was spot on.
I originally thought this is the first solo song by Spike, but oh boy am I wrong... it's "Spike At Your Service" were he sung the first time solo for AJ to remember a song... - However its not bad, Spike had a good voice here, it was even sung by her VA Cathy Weseluck.
Twilight Sparkle: "Of course! You're a celebrity here in the Crystal Empire, and you just risked all of it for a friend! I can't imagine anything more brave than that. [to others] As the Princess of Friendship, I try to set an example for all of Equestria. But today, it was Spike who taught me that a new friend can come from anywhere. I guess everypony still has things to learn about friendship. Even me! And if Spike says Thorax is his friend, then he's my friend too." - The princess of friendship.
That was fast... maybe too fast?
"Gauntlet of Fire" was Episode 5 of Season 6.

Episode 16 gives us another fantastic Spike-centered story. This episode showcases Spike's significant growth as a character, particularly through his courage in standing up for Thorax, a changeling. Spike's bravery in defending Thorax, despite the potential consequences to his own reputation, marks a huge step forward for him. His decision to befriend Thorax is central to the episode and highly commendable. Even with the changelings' negative reputation, Spike looks past the prejudice and sees Thorax as an individual deserving of a chance. Not only does he befriend Thorax, but he also takes the difficult step of convincing the others to accept him by risking his own reputation.
And while some may question why Spike didn't immediately reveal the truth about Thorax, it's completely understandable. The other ponies were so deeply distrustful of changelings that forging a friendship with one seemed unthinkable to them. After being shut down the first time he mentioned his bond with Thorax, Spike's hesitation is relatable.
But I do have to criticize Spike's song: although it was intriguing, a heartfelt speech might have been even more effective and better suited to the situation. Nonetheless, thanks to Spike's intervention, the ponies eventually come around and give Thorax the acceptance he deserved.
However, one thing felt a bit inconsistent in this episode and that was how quickly the ponies, especially Shining Armor and Cadance, came to trust Thorax, despite their past traumatic experiences with changelings during the Canterlot invasion. Given the fear and hostility they had previously shown, their sudden acceptance of Thorax seemed unrealistic. A more gradual change of heart might have made their trust feel more authentic. However, it's possible that Thorax's time disguised as Crystal Hoof, during which he became popular and formed friendships, made it easier for them to accept him.
Despite this, it was exciting to finally see a changeling on the good side, offering more insight into their species and bringing some intriguing worldbuilding elements into the mix. For instance, the episode confirms that changelings hatch from eggs, a significant detail about their biology. It also raises interesting questions, such as whether the persona of "Crystal Hoof" was based on a real pony or if changelings can create entirely new identities. There's even speculation about whether the changeling seen in the "Slice of Life" episode, affectionately named "Kevin" by fans, could have been Thorax, living undetected among ponies.
The episode also leaves us wondering about the changelings' abilities and strength. How powerful are they with magic, given their alicorn-like build, complete with horns and wings? And, is their need for love similar to vampires' dependence on blood? This leads to even deeper questions about their nature. Could changelings survive on love without harming ponies? This contrasts sharply with Queen Chrysalis's aggressive tactics, raising the possibility that her methods might be more about control than necessity. It hints at potential redemption arcs for changelings, which, as we later find out, becomes even a reality. 😏
Thorax is portrayed as a genuinely good character. His intriguing flashback to the Season 2 finale, presenting the events from Thorax's perspective, revealed that he was inspired by the Mane 6 and their strong bonds of friendship. He set out on his own journey to find a friend and possibly set an example for his hive in future.
Overall it turned out to be a surprisingly strong episode, especially for Spike. The story moves forward with the changeling saga, hinting at a bigger role for Chrysalis and the changelings in the upcoming finale. It’s clear they’re making a return, and this episode teases the possibility of their growing importance.
Spike shines throughout the episode, making decisions that show his growth as a character. The episode also cleverly tackles themes of prejudice and acceptance. It demonstrates how lingering stigma can lead to mistrust, even when it's unwarranted. The message of overcoming fear and embracing differences is delivered in a way that’s accessible and meaningful for viewers of all ages. The core lesson is beautifully summed up with the idea that "a new friend can come from anywhere", reminding us that friendships can be found in the most unexpected places.

Your ending was... hm... how to put it... awkward... 😅
Anyway, great reaction! 💙

Well said! The season of spike?!?!
But I also loved the outside perspective of the Changeling and how they want friendship. Underrated episode for what it does for the stigma they have and spike leading the way!

A good spike episode! I love this episode, great message too something that everyone needs to know a new friend can come from anywhere! thorax seems chill, it’s awesome how seeing the mane 6 friendship made him want too have friends and be like the ponies instead of take love from others, I loved the song as well a changeling can change!
