that pun is... oh boy 😅
you already have seen "honest apple", you now how the total truth can hurt someone...
It is a show originally for 4-6 year old kids - to talk about dead parents isn't a good topic in any way at that point - still its been 6 years since season 1... so most viewer were 10-12 at that time in season 7... 👀 and "Hey Arnold" was aimed at teens i think...

A deeper episode than meets the eyes and I don’t mean derpy’s 🥁
I do like how you put their dynamic and history together as it does explain why they both are they way you are.
I also like that exploration of applejack, being right but inconsiderate. I didn’t really see Mac’s talking as a bad thing so it just seemed like AJ was really stubborn and trying to be be right to prove she was responsible. There’s just a lot of ways that applejack hasn’t really grown on me or well. Or maybe that’s the point that the way she is can be too rude even if it right or honest.
Yes it seems they will continue to ignore the parents which is unfortunate and would also play a role in their development.
Honestly I have no idea. It’s quite odd to not even have a mention of them besides “if mom and dad were here” back when applebloom got her cutie mark (I think).
Hey Arnold wasn’t afraid to linger and put into question this deeper theme of potentially deceased parents so it’s a shame MLP hasn’t done so thus far. Still have 2.5 seasons so there’s still time 🤔

- Some notes/thoughts/facts: -
Yes fitting to be eating an Apple while watching an apple-centered episode... 😄
Filthy Rich is Diamond Tiaras father.
Apple Bloom: "What could you possibly know about it? You've never told a lie in your whole life!"
- yeah! You are the element of honesty... so how do you now?
Granny Smith: "Oh-ho, sugarcube. [laughing] Your big sister lied so much when she was a filly, the whole family ended up in the hospital." 😨
- turns out Applejack wasn't as innocent as she seemed to be all the time.
Filthy Rich: "Just Rich, please. And I'd you to meet my fiancée, Spoiled Milk. Honey, this is Applejack and Big Mac, the two hardest workin' ponies at Sweet Apple Acres."
Spoiled Milk: "You work on a farm? How... quaint."
Filthy Rich: "[chuckles] Oh, now, dear, be nice. Sweet Apple Acres makes zap apple jam. It's one of Dad's best-sellers."
- Her name is Spoiled Milk? Uhhh, talk about hating your child to name it like that. 👀 That was bound to end in a questionable character. 😏
Young Applejack: "Ya know what? How 'bout we give you three barrels of cider early, and if it sells well, we'll make a deal for the rest?" - is it a good deal though? Aren't they getting more money by selling it directly?
Interesting BigMac is looking after Cheerilee... maybe the love-potion in "Hearth's and Hoofday" wasn't only about a fake-love... - Also its Cheerilee's with her wild 80's Mane design 🤩

AJ is telling lies about Granny Smith and is nearly killing her by body-checking her all the time...
- There is no way this might topple at one point isn't it?
Young Big McIntosh: "[sarcastic] Look, sis. Our good friend, Mr. Rich and his fiancée... are here. Oh, and they brought flowers! For Granny! On account o' she's sick! Like you said. Ain't that sweet?" 🤣
The lies are getting thicker...
Young Applejack: "Just lay down, keep still, and promise me you won't say anythin' for once in your life!"
Young Big McIntosh: "[unconvinced] Eeeeyup."
- The first time and forever... so much for "once in your life" 😅
"The Shining" - is that you? 😅 - You got that right Ed. 😄

Derpy had an eye surgery here - So her cross-eyed disability may have happened due to an accident?

It was time to stop this web of lies... Luckily no one was really hurt, well except for Granny Smith maybe.
But it was darn tooting close...
Young Big McIntosh: "Maybe if I paid more attention to what you had to say instead of talkin' all the time, none o' this would've happened in the first place. I just need to... talk less and listen more. Especially to you." - So that's how Big Mac is what he is today...
Young Applejack: "[sighs] Thanks, big brother. And whether it's me runnin' Sweet Apple Acres or you, I know it'll be in good hooves."
- So wholesome 🥰
AJ is indeed prideful and stubborn sometimes, but most times she is also kind of right, but not considerate about the effects of her honesty to others...
Granny Smith: "Now, who here still wants to hear about the apple blight?"
- its funny how everyone is too afraid to say something against her 😅
"Applejack: It's not a story I'm proud of, but it taught me a lifelong lesson about bein' honest. I hope you learned somethin', too."
Apple Bloom: "I learned that nopony starts out perfect and sometimes you gotta make a few mistakes to figure out who you are."
- yeah indeed, but this is by far no free ticket to do it willy-nilly
Apple Bloom: "But I think the most important thing I learned is who really runs Sweet Apple Acres."
Applejack, Apple Bloom, and Big McIntosh: "Granny!"
- Eeyup!

In this Apple-family-centric episode, we gain intriguing insights into Applejack's and Big Mac's past, shedding light on their personal growth and development.
Applejack's journey towards becoming the "Element of Honesty" is explored in depth. The episode reveals that she wasn't always the embodiment of truthfulness. As a younger pony, Applejack struggled with dishonesty, occasionally being inconsiderate and even rude. Much of her frustration stemmed from Big Mac's excessive talking and the pressure of who would eventually take over the family farm.
At one point however, Applejack makes a promise that jeopardizes the farm's business, but she is too proud and fearful to admit her mistake, leading her into a spiral of lies. This shows that even the most honest characters, like Applejack, can falter under pressure, and the consequences of her actions almost lead to Big Mac getting seriously hurt. This experience ultimately strengthens her dedication to honesty, shaping her into the pony she is in the present.
Big Mac, on the other hand, is depicted very differently from the quiet stallion we know today. In his youth, he was quite talkative, often speaking in a roundabout way without getting to the point, which contributed to Applejack's frustration and poor decisions. Over the course of the episode, Big Mac learns the hard way that his excessive talking and indirectness aren't helpful, and by the end, he adopts a more straightforward approach. This marks the beginning of his famously quiet nature of "Eeyup" and "Nope"'s, explaining why he seldom speaks in earlier episodes. It also explains his surprising eloquence when he took on the role of "Orchard Blossom" in "Brotherhooves Social." 😅
This trip into the past made one thing clear, Hasbro didn't want to go much into the matter of Applejacks and Big Mac's parents. The absence of is a noticeable aspect of the episode. Some fans speculate that this story takes place before Apple Bloom's birth, while others believe the parents were simply absent or even deceased. Given that Apple Bloom isn't seen in the episode, it's possible she was off with their parents during this time, though this sadly remains a missed opportunity for deeper exploration of the Apple family's backstory... 😑
We also get a glimpse into Filthy Rich's early relationship with "Spoiled Milk", who would later become "Spoiled Rich". The humor and irony of her name, "Spoiled Milk," reflect her personality transformation over time, and it's interesting to see the roots of her influence over Diamond Tiara, leading to her daughter's problematic behavior towards the CMC later on. 😏
The episode's primary message is clear: "one lie leads to another," and even when lies are told with good intentions, they can spiral out of control, causing serious consequences. Another takeaway is Granny Smiths' persistence. 😅
Overall, this episode answers important questions about why Big Mac became so quiet and why Applejack values honesty so deeply. It strikes a balance between humorous chaos and heartfelt lessons, with memorable moments like Big Mac repeatedly getting reprimanded for talking too much. It also includes some subtle character backstories, such as a hint of Derpy's eye surgery, adding a layer of depth to the world of Ponyville.
Sooo... what do you think are their parents dead? Or is there something else going on?
