MLP Season 6 Review

(Didn’t want to remove the entire post so just added the “6” fix)

What an interesting season. The quality and episode runs weren't as consistent as previous seasons. This season showed to be a rollercoaster as the pacing from episode to episode went from great, to okay, mediocre, to good which left me having to defend my enjoyment for episodes more than I would have liked. Still, while the amount of top rated episodes wasn’t as present, there were many underrated and important developments that are worthwhile. Firstly, the redemption of Spike was unexpected but proved how the continued writing from the creators is magnificent. He was more caring, empathetic, and did not stick to his usual comic relief and burden image. Another thing this season accomplishes is the introduction of brand new duo pairings which I have been manifesting. They took a more problem solving clash rather than the personalities or emotions which at first wasn’t what I wanted but it taught me how everything does not need to be dramatic. The ideas could have been a lot more grand but they suffice. Another incredible thing and the most important about this season was the continued growth of Starlight Glimmer. She is quickly becoming one of the best inclusions and characters in the series as her use of revenge, fear, and power is being utilized in a way to help her with past, current, and future friendships. The way she faces her trauma from sunburst, acknowledges the importance of fun and traditions, makes an impressive and perfect connection with Trixie, learns that spending time with others is not a checklist, and battles Chrysalis who parallels her past, she was nothing short of phenomenal. While on the topic, the inclusion of Thorax was monumental as it allowed for such impactful character and world building growth while still making chrysalis a looming villain.

Overall, this season has its ups and downs with many low rated or middle of the road episodes and has some underwhelming concepts for the long awaited new duos. Flurry Heart is another plot line I felt was built up but did not get much of an appearance besides the season premiere. I would have expected a bit more look into the history and reasons of their alicorn status and their training so that is unfortunate there was so little of it; perhaps in future seasons we will see this come around. Even with the bad, the good cannot be forgotten! Starlight, Spike, duos, AJ, Thorax, Trixie, the first and last episodes of the season. There were many episodes that were on the line of 8-9/10 so easily looking more into them I could see the greatness of this season. Alas, I do think topping Season 5 or coming close to it will be incredibly difficult for this and future seasons to match. Nonetheless, this was an underrated season that has many elements to love. 8-7.5/10

1. Starlight

2. Spike

3. Thorax

4. CMC

5. Applejack

6. Ember

7. Twilight

8. Pinkie

9. zephyr

P.s. Didn’t want to mess up review but I also feel they’ve sort of halted Fluttershy’s involvement and RD also didn’t have a good season. Hoping to see a lot more from them!

Reading this has me excited for what the season contained! You’re right on so much from the world building, new characters, and acts of friendship activities. Might have to bump it to an 8-8.5! I usually rate and rank the seasons just to captured my feelings. I like Rating things 😂 And once again thank you for the kind words 💙💙

Yeah, this season had its ups and downs, but the highlights were fantastic! Both the premiere and the finale were absolute standouts, as always. I completely agree with you about Starlight's growth - it was phenomenal and incredibly relatable. She quickly became a fan favorite within the community, and it's easy to understand why her character resonated with so many. It was also especially rewarding to see Spike finally receive the attention he deserved, being portrayed as a truly appreciated character who finds success in his endeavors instead just a comic relief. One of the season's greatest strengths was its rich worldbuilding. We got to explore new and fascinating places, from the Dragonlands and the Wonderbolts' Headquarters, with all their customs, to Las Pegasus and the Changeling Hive, now home to newfound allies. Familiar locations like Ponyville, Canterlot, and Manehattan were also expanded upon, offering fresh perspectives on well-known places. The season also introduced new lore, deepening our understanding of the changelings, Hearth's Warming, dragon customs, and even giving us a glimpse into how AJ's honest nature came to be. Alongside this, we were introduced to several memorable new characters, such as Sunburst, Fluttershy's parents and brother Zephyr, Thorax, and Gabby. There were also some unexpected friendships that formed, like Ember and Spike, who became close friends and ambassadors for an alliance with Equestria. Spike, Big Mac, and Discord also found common ground through their D&D group, while Snails connected with Pinkie and Fluttershy on the Buckball team. Perhaps the most surprising bond of all was the blossoming friendship between Trixie and Starlight, who found they understood each other on a deeper level as former villains. Meanwhile, some of the Mane 6 finally achieved their long-awaited goals. Twilight gained a student who excelled in her studies and ultimately saved everyone in a critical moment. Rainbow Dash realized her dream of becoming a full-fledged Wonderbolt, and Rarity successfully opened her own boutique in Manehattan. In the end, despite some flaws, this season was underrated. It offered so much to enjoy, even if not everything was perfect. I truly appreciate your reactions - they are always so entertaining. Thank you for sticking with the show and sharing your thoughts; it's clear you enjoyed most of the episodes, and that makes watching along with you all the more fun. 💙 I just wonder though; what exactly are you ranking here?
