If you remember from Garnet’s origin story, the reason all the gems reacted the way they did to Garnet fusing was bc they had never seen 2 different types of gems fuse (especially out of love for each other and not to gain a tactical advantage) :) whenever the same gem fuses, it’s still the same gem type, just much bigger. Just to answer ur question at the end :p
