Discord Pushes Starlight’s Buttons! | My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 8 Episode 14 REACTION + Discussion

It's not that strange as lot's of episodes were unintentionally pre-aired on different channels and sometimes even leaked weeks before it should have... So this confusion was unavoidable...

Yes great point! It is his nature. To accept ppl as they are. But with discord I understand both sides

Ed

I agree. Discord doing his usual tests and pushing her which sucked since she would’ve done a good job. But still shows how she can have her little outbursts like in the past That ending 😂😂

Ed

This episode is pretty definitely not the best of the season but I do like seeing starlight try and run the school, if not for discord she would’ve done a great job, discord is definitely always going to far with stuff like sending the bugbear after the kids, and starlight went to far by attacking and banishing him, lol that was awesome though how powerful she is, the cutie mark spell nobody saw that coming

Celestia gave him a fair chance in s4e25, and he betrayed everyone to Tirek. Unfortunately, because he is a being of pure chaos, he simply cannot ever be fully trusted. And he cannot simply stop being a being of pure chaos, because when he tried in s7e12 he nearly ceased to exist. Fluttershy probably does trust him fully, but that would be a precarious situation for her to be in if it weren't for her friends having her back and keeping an eye on him. Dealing with Discord is simply a unique situation all around because of who he is.

Great take. Would make sense considering his nature. But I still feel Fluttershy and maybe spike/ma are the only ones who have given him a fair chance.

Ed

The more you know! I just follow what YouTube and the wiki tell me unless stated otherwise

Found the reason for the discrepancy in the wiki article on Yakity-Sax. "This episode first aired as part of Discovery Family's "Summer Surprises" event on July 20, 2018, ahead of its officially scheduled airing on August 25, 2018." So apparently the order you're watching it in was the intended one and it just didn't air that way. Fascinating.

My personal opinion on Discord is that he never truly reformed, but also was never truly evil either. He serves neither good nor evil, but only chaos. The change that the ponies interpreted as a reform was actually just Discord taking a liking to the ponies (especially Fluttershy) and deciding he had more fun messing around with them as friends than trying to rule the world.

sjones17515

No, you're correct that it doesn't matter much. The discrepancy does seem odd though.

Very well said! He can never do “no wrong” and views everyone else as difficult. Still primitive in friendship but he still has some awful moments that do eventually blossom to great lessons of him needing to understand and own up to it. Very divisive character but I also enjoy him a lot!

Ed

I checked YouTube where I watch, Serializd (where I log episodes) and the MLPwiki and it says it’s the order I went in. Either way I don’t think it matters too much but sorry if it caused any inconvenience

The main Discord's flaw is his huge ego. He is almighty immortal god of chaos who was almost never viewed as a good guy or a friend to someone else, which is the core of his infantilism and egocentrism. When Discord discovered and experienced true friendship from Fluttershy, he became more soft and empathetic, but his rotten character still remained. It's not something that can just disappear, especially when Discord is still neglected pretty frequently. In this episode his ego didn't let him just confess his feelings and admit that he screwed up, as it was in "Dungeons and Discords" when he didn't tell Spike and Big Mac nothing about his loneliness and barely said sorry for ruining their meeting. Discord wants to think of himself as of undeniably awesome and cool guy, and also wants everyone to view him this way, but it always fails. These are the reasons why Discord is one of my favourite characters of the whole show. He is far from perfect, but he grows his own way, step by step.

I show Hearth's Warming Club as episode 16. Episode 14 is Yakity-Sax. At least according to imdb

sjones17515

No I think this is the correct episode! A principle of matters is 8x14 and hearth’s warming club is 8x15 But I’m just checking the airdate and did not know they aired the same day. Either way the other episode will be out tomorrow!

Ed

This is episode 15. You skipped one
