Tirek was only truly menacing when he had powers. In his first appearance during the Season 4 finale, he showed glimpses of his weaker side, especially early on. Even later, when he was traveling with Discord, his vulnerability was still apparent - not too surprising, to be honest. Of course, this is open to individual interpretation.
Cozy Glow, on the other hand, started off strong, but there was a missed opportunity to provide more backstory or explanation for her character. In the end, we have fan theories to fill the gaps. 😅
Chancellor Neighsay's character development, however, was handled really well.
As for the Tree of Harmony, I've already shared my thoughts back in episode 22.

Your insight about the new 6 is magnificent. I already i did think they were a highlight and great part of this season but now they represent and mirror our ponies with that detail and analysis was fantastic! Already gaining more of an appreciation!
Yeah I get that. But even just certain animation changes and keeping the song would be fine. Think they have only changed it 2 times all series thus far. But I’m just an anime guy so of course I want new themes/identity
I loved seeing the ponies without magic! Brand new situation AND it brought forth the mythical creatures. Also again I loved your thoughts on the different kings of magic. Reminded me of the stuff I forget or don’t look into!
Yeah no guards? Pen Pals? It’s a cartoon but cmon 😂
While Neighsay did have a quick turning around, I do appreciate them changing his world view and deep rooted issues. Not a racist/bigot apologist but I thought they handled it well!
My main issue was with cozy with her resolve and tirek feeling too easy. I understand the ponies stuck there was more to put the focus on the young 6 so that wasn’t a big issue. Cozy I liked the lead up but I think after everything just felt shallow or uninteresting. Tirek is more just feels really dumb and too cartoon logic for how menacing and evil i viewed him. And I felt besides new 6 and neigh say, was a biiig part of this. Not even reform but just more stern or details of the history or something.
That pinkie ability is hilarious 😂
Maybe it was harsh but as you said, she fully understood what she was doing and went as far as draining and stopping magic all for herself. I’m surprised she was only put in there. And it also feels weird if this the end of them where as other parts end it off much more clearly and emotionally.
Oooo that’s an interesting thought to have of where it goes. EQG? 🤔
Do you think the tree of harmony works as a dues Ex machina? That’s why I say it’s like a spiritual/religious since it seems it has grown to the point of superceding and saving the day when it otherwise would end in a villain victory.
there was so much brilliance and great moments here. But there was equally a lot of undeveloped or anticlimactic parts. Haven’t really felt this way but I’m also choosing to focus on the new 6, magic, tree of harmony, and neigh say.
1. More. Season. 😭

- Some notes/thoughts/facts: -
Cozy Glow in the first minute is shown to be a responsible pony, who is righteous, sorting trash and diligently doing assistant work for Twilight...
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/a/a0/Rainbow_Harmony_ID_S8E25.png
- This pony you mentioned is called "Rainbow Harmony", she was an OC from someone who won a raffle from Hasbro's own convention HASCON to have one of the two free spots on the show.
The other one was this pony here called "Trusty Splendor":
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/f/fb/Trusty_Splendor_ID_S8E25.png
"She is too clean..." - Hah! you are onto her 😅
Twilight performed the cloudwalking spell back in Season 1. While it might be a stretch to call it powerful, there are some notable differences. Twilight's spell allowed four ponies to walk on clouds for several days without requiring continuous magic, unlike what Starlight does here. However, Starlight casts it on a much larger group, which makes her approach a more extravagant use of magic.
I agree with you about the intros staying the same - it would have been awesome to see a new one each season, like in an anime. However, Hasbro kept the intro song and visuals largely unchanged to maintain their iconic and recognizable status for fans of all ages. Their goal was to establish a consistent and always recognizable brand as they primarily wanted to sell their toys.
This was to funny:

https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/c/ca/Spike_making_gagging_noises_S8E25.png
Absolutely photogenic Spike 🤣
It's quite the subtle hint how Cozy Glow mentioned Tirek to get the Mane 6 to Tartarus...
I love that detail with Spike flying over to cope for the failing magic of the princesses:
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/b/bb/Celestia_%22disappearing_all_across_Equestria%21%22_S8E25.png
They say magic is disappearing all across Equestria... I wonder if she meant it's truly limited to just Equestria, or if that's simply the extent of their information. Could it be happening worldwide as well...?
Princess Celestia: "And finally, magical artifacts will stop working. When the sun sets on the third day, the magic in our world will be gone forever!"
- The easy solution is right there! Don't set the sun Celestia 😅 - Though I wonder how this should even work when there is no magic anymore..?
Twilight Sparkle: "We'll go."
Rarity: "Oh, no-no-no-no-no-no. Not without us, you wo— Wait. Did you say 'we'?"
Twilight Sparkle: "I've finally learned that it's okay to count on your friends for help. Um, you do want to come, right?"
- Great! They grow up so fast... 😭
Unfortunately, the hints in this episode made Cozy's role in the disappearing magic far too obvious, too soon. Her peculiar behavior throughout gave it away well before the big reveal.
Cozy Glow: "Oh, golly, yes!" - anyone who is saying "golly" is suspect to me 😣
Cozy Glow: [giggles] "Oh, Smolder, you forget. We're not scheming dragons. We're ponies. Sounds like somecreature needs to do a little extra friendship homework."
- wow... this was unexpectedly... biased? 👀
To see the Mane 6 in this kind of predicament without magic was indeed something new... but even then they prevailed.
"Citrine Spark": "Oh, oh, of course. But if Twilight takes her time coming back, I won't mind." [students laughing]
- "Hmmmmm?"-Indeed 😏
Gallus: "You get the feeling Cozy's trying too hard to make us like her?"
- So many hmmmmm's...
And here they stand before the gates of Tartarus, with Cozy having given them an artifact capable of opening it... but only once! Twilight stayed outside, mentioning this fact. Yet, none of the Mane 6 seemed to consider the possibility that they might not be able to escape once inside. Perhaps they believed they could solve everything by simply entering. Still, it wasn't the wisest plan of action...
Also... why weren't there any guards at the entrance? A prison which is unguarded... it's bound to be trouble...
We visited Tartarus before, back when Tirek trapped the princesses there in the Season 4 finale. However, it was just a brief glimpse. Now, we get to explore more of it, along with all of its inhabitants. It was neat.
Neighsay enters the fray... and, surprisingly, he isn't aligned with Cozy Glow. That was unexpected. However, he remains a prejudiced bigot, treating the Student Six like prisoners.
He still has powers because he used an artifact. Artifacts were the last objects to lose their magic.
Double agent Sandbar reporting for duty 😅 - and he's recruiting new agents: the CMCs! In the finale! YES! 🤩
Rainbow Dash: "How about you tell us what you know, or you'll be stuck here forever, because we're out of magic keys and nopony can open the door?"
- Why is she the only one who realizes this?
Lord Tirek: "Oh, we've never met. We're pen pals."
- Why was he allowed to write letters?! And why weren't these pre-screened first?
The cat's out of the bag... and it's confirmed. Cozy Glow is the mastermind behind it all, with a meticulously concocted plan and cunning manipulation. She fooled everyone.
And yes Starlight was trapped by Cozy Glow...
These faces...

https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/4/42/Cozy_Glow_walks_the_halls_in_anger_S8E26.png
- You can't tell me the animators didn't have fun with what they were doing...
Cozy Glow: "All this magic needs time to drain from Equestria before my vortex sucks it to another realm."
- which realm might she be talking about? Maybe the human one? 🤔
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/e/e0/Rainbow_Dash_slams_into_the_gates_S8E26.png
😂
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/5/5d/Claws_dragging_in_Sweetie_Belle_S8E26.png
- New fear unlocked... magical ghostly grabbing hands swallowing one into a vortex...
Cozy Glow: "And when you say there won't be any more lessons from the Princess of Friendship at the School of Friendship, I guess you mean that, too." [...] "But Twilight decided to run her school outside of the EEA guidelines. And even though you tried to stop her, Princesses Celestia and Luna trusted her enough to support her."
- As much as she is wrong about other things... she was right about that... 😏
Chancellor Neighsay is confined due to Cozy's manipulation of the students, but is later freed by the Student Six.
Yona: "Now that nasty pony met even nastier pony, maybe nasty pony not be so nasty."
- The enemy of my enemy is my friend, huh?
There it is, Neighsay explained why he can cast it, albeit it was told in the beginning why 😅
It's funny how Spike always has to remind Tirek that they're actually seven, not just the Mane 6—he's there too! 😂 Poor Spike, getting overlooked again.
And yeah, getting Tirek on board seemed a bit too easy...
So, without magic, are they just ordinary beasts?
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/5/57/Creatures_turn_into_normal_animals_S8E26.png
Talk about perfect timing... She managed to corner the Student Six exactly where she wanted them—right in the middle of her speech about destroying the school. It was the perfect way to rally all the other students against them, blaming the Student Six for everything.
But just as the Student Six were caught in the vortex, the Tree of Harmony decided to intervene, rescuing them at the last moment. It's now officially confirmed: they are the new generation of the Elements of Harmony!
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/0/0f/Starlight_and_Young_Six_saved_by_rainbow_S8E26.png
If you watch closely, Pinkie also seems to have regained some kind of magic...
https://packaged-media.redd.it/qlb2e1e4oo8d1/pb/m2-res_480p.mp4?m=DASHPlaylist.mpd&v=1&e=1730941200&s=2585f4351b08c22b95b77d0ea63acc4f0948c1f1
- With that, it's confirmed: Pinkie's many unexplained abilities, her frequent fourth-wall breaks (likely linked to her Pinkie Sense), and her knack for storing oversized objects—like her party cannon—in hammerspace, all of it makes you shrug and say, "Well, yeah, it's just Pinkie." The way she looked at it makes me think she kind of knows that too... which is honestly terrifying to consider. 😨
You are definitely in a lot of trouble my dear traitor...
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/9/97/Mane_Seven_glaring_at_Cozy_Glow_S8E26.png
Twilight Sparkle: "You're the one who doesn't get it, Cozy. Friendship is powerful, but power isn't why you make friends. I'm sorry I couldn't teach you that." - Cozy, you were at the core of this - how could you have missed this message!
Chancellor Neighsay: "Your headmare is right. I thought friendship was something only ponies should share with each other. But you all taught me how wrong I was. I suppose true friendship can take a lifetime to understand."
- sadly yes... as there are countless individuals each with their own views and ways to befriend them, it is...
And Cozy get's trapped in Tartarus for her crimes...
---
In "School Raze", magic begins to disappear from Equestria. Twilight Sparkle and her friends investigate and discover that Cozy Glow, a seemingly innocent filly, is behind the scheme. Cozy Glow's plan involves draining magic to ascend to power. The Mane Six are trapped in Tartarus, leaving the Student 6 - students from Twilight's School of Friendship—to thwart Cozy Glow's plot. With assistance from the Tree of Harmony, the Student 6 restore magic to Equestria, and Cozy Glow is imprisoned in Tartarus.
== The Emerging Heroes Role of the Young/Student 6 ==
The Student 6 take center stage, showcasing their growth and unity. Their success emphasizes the show's message that friendship transcends species and backgrounds. During the Tree's intervention, each member of the Young Six is enveloped in a distinct colored aura. Notably, these colors correspond to those of the original Element bearers. Also, its obvious now, that these are the potential new Bearers of the Elements of Harmony: The Student 6 may represent new embodiments of the Elements of Harmony, as suggested by their glowing auras with colors associated with the original bearers during the climax. This visual cue has led to speculation that the Young Six may be successors to the original Element bearers.
Keep in mind that while the colors of Student 6 align with the Mane 6 elements, the reasons behind why they represent these elements are a perspective not everyone agrees on:
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/d/d0/Silverstream_bathed_in_harmony%27s_light_S8E26.png
- (Pink Glow) Silverstream is the embodiment of pure, unrestrained joy and curiosity. Like Pinkie Pie, her laughter is not simply lighthearted playfulness - it's a defense and a celebration of life itself. Having grown up under the oppressive rule of the Storm King, Silverstream understands the reality of fear and loss. This traumatic experience has shaped her into someone who treasures every moment and enthusiastically embraces the small wonders others take for granted. Her passion for life, and desire to share that joy with others, makes her a perfect candidate for Laughter. Silverstream doesn't just laugh to express herself: she laughs to ensure others feel the same unrestrained freedom she's fought so hard to regain.
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/4/48/Yona_bathed_in_harmony%27s_light_S8E26.png
- (Orange Glow) Yona, the yak, is as forthright as they come. Like Applejack, her honesty is blunt and sometimes verges on harsh, yet it's born from a cultural tradition that values straightforwardness and transparency. Yaks are known for their straightforward nature, and Yona reflects this in her fearless approach to life. She is genuine to the core and feels no need to hide her thoughts or feelings. But what's special about Yona's honesty is her self-awareness. She understands her strengths and limitations without pretension, embodying the kind of humility and groundedness that true honesty requires. For Yona, lying or deceiving is pointless... it's simply not in her nature. This sincerity and transparency are what make her an ideal bearer of the Element of Honesty.
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/b/b0/Young_four_bathed_in_harmony%27s_light_S8E26.png
- (White Glow) At first, Ocellus, the shy and gentle changeling, might seem like a candidate for Kindness, but her designation as Generosity fits beautifully. Changelings were once known only for their greed, taking love rather than sharing it. Ocellus represents a reformed changeling, eager to give back rather than take, which is a transformation as powerful as it is meaningful. She's studious and insightful, and her "wealth" comes in the form of knowledge. Ocellus freely shares what she knows with others, offering support and guidance without expectation of return. Her openness in sharing not just her knowledge but her newfound understanding of friendship symbolizes the spirit of Generosity, showing that even those who once took can transform into those who give.
- (Yellow Glow) Sandbar's calm and collected nature sets him apart as the bearer of Kindness. His laid-back, gentle demeanor mirrors Fluttershy's, and his empathy often shines through his willingness to listen and extend compassion to others. He's the glue that keeps his friends grounded, acting as a stabilizing force in the face of conflict. His unyielding faith in others, even in difficult situations, reveals his trust in the inherent goodness of those around him. This unwavering belief aligns with the essence of Kindness, as he chooses to see the best in others and extend compassion, no matter the situation. His empathy and instinctive kindness toward others make him a deserving successor to Fluttershy.
- (Blue Glow) Smolder's assignment to Loyalty might seem unexpected at first, as dragons often prize independence and strength over allegiance. Smolder, however, shows her loyalty in a unique way: she holds her friends to high standards, challenging them to be their best. Her bluntness, though sometimes harsh, is intended to push her friends to grow stronger. Her loyalty is tough love, and her dedication to her friends means holding them accountable, even if that means being brutally honest. Smolder's commitment to her group reflects the essence of loyalty: staying true to others by encouraging them to reach their fullest potential. Her cultural value of strength adds depth to her version of Loyalty, as she supports her friends in ways that empower them.
- (Purple Glow) And lastly there is Gallus. His relationship with the Element of Magic is at first questionable, but I think it's the most symbolic of all. "Magic" in this context isn't about casting spells: It represents the magic of friendship, the bond that unites others. That is explainable with him growing up in Griffonstone, a society lacking in companionship and warmth, which left him isolated and cynical. The friendships he formed at Twilight's school were his first real connections, and he treasures them deeply, even if he hides it behind sarcasm. His experience of friendship as something new and precious makes him the perfect embodiment of the "magic" that Twilight represents. This got obvious during the episode "The Hearth's Warming Club", where he didn't want to go back to Griffinstone, but stay at school with his friends. To him, friendship is transformative and something he will protect fiercely. Gallus cherishes these bonds as a source of true strength, which mirrors the Element of Magic's role as the unifying force.
The Tree of Harmony's decision to speak directly to the Student 6 is a profound indication of their potential. Unlike the Mane Six, who uncovered and wielded the Elements as adults, the Student 6 are still learning and growing, making them ideal candidates for mentorship. By guiding these young creatures, the Tree of Harmony is laying the groundwork for the next generation of protectors, signaling a transition in Equestria's legacy. They aren't perfect matches for the Mane Six, nor should they be; instead, they each bring fresh perspectives to the Elements, demonstrating that harmony is not limited to one specific group or generation. In this way, the Student 6 don't just carry the virtues of the Elements - they bring new life to them. Through their unique personalities and backgrounds, they redefine what it means to be Equestria's guardians of friendship, suggesting that harmony is a living, evolving ideal, enriched by each new heart that holds its power.
== Cozy Glow as a Villain ==
When first introduced, Cozy portrays herself as sweet, cute, innocent, and naive. As a student of the School of Friendship, she often displays a fear of failing class and being expelled. However, this is later revealed to be a front for Cozy's true nature as a schemer and manipulator. She cunningly integrates herself into the lives of the Mane 6, Student 6, and the Cutie Mark Crusaders, playing the role of an adorable, friendly filly to earn their trust. This facade is all part of her larger plan to take over the school, and eventually, all of Equestria.
There are still many open questions about her, particularly regarding her origins, motivations, and overall objective. Was her approach to the Cutie Mark Crusaders deliberate, or was it just happenstance? It was hinted early on that Cozy had a twisted view of friendship, labeling aspects of it as "Intelligence" and "Control" during her interactions with the CMC, which served as subtle but clever foreshadowing of her true nature.
Afterward, she tirelessly worked her way into a position as Twilight's school assistant, becoming involved in most of the principal's matters - possibly as a means to infiltrate the higher ranks and gain their trust. At the end of "Friendship University", it was implied that she was responsible for distributing the School of Friendship's lesson plans to Flim and Flam. And now, it's evident that in "What Lies Beneath", she deliberately manipulated the Student 6, attempting to convince them that friendship was not part of their nature. Later, she ominously looked into the vent where the roots of the Tree of Harmony were hidden, persuading the Student 6 not to tell anyone else about this discovery - a request they strangely accepted, seemingly due to their misplaced trust in her.
Her helpful demeanor and manipulative skills proved incredibly successful, as no one questioned her loyalty during the finale. This allowed her to secretly prepare a vortex spell capable of draining all magic from Equestria. Her obsession with power through friendship - a fundamentally flawed understanding - culminated in this catastrophic event. Cozy also meticulously planned to get the Mane Six out of her way by trapping them in Tartarus, clearing her path to achieve her goal. However, she was temporarily interrupted by Chancellor Neighsay. Yet, due to her earlier efforts to assist Twilight, along with bribing the students and showcasing her manipulative skills, Cozy orchestrated an uprising against Neighsay and took on the role of headmare. She even framed the Student 6 for the disappearance of magic, a genius winning move - if not for the direct intervention of the Tree of Harmony, which was triggered by the Student 6's sacrificial actions to help one another out of their predicament.
Sadly, despite her elaborate schemes, Cozy Glow is the shallowest villain in terms of backstory. She is portrayed as being evil for the sake of evil, with no official background provided. Initially, many believed she was being used by Chancellor Neighsay to infiltrate Twilight's school and cause trouble, but this was simply not the case - another missed opportunity, in my opinion.
She remains a complete mystery, with very few details known about her. One notable detail however is her cutie mark: a chess piece called a rook, which is one of the strongest pieces on the chessboard. The rook symbolizes control and the ability to dominate space, restricting the opponent's movement. This is a fitting symbol for Cozy, who is a skilled strategist, adept at manipulating others to gain dominance. Her ultimate desire appears to be power and control over everyone through deception and, eventually, outright power.
But why did she do this? Her portrayal as a manipulative filly deviates significantly from the typical villains seen previously in the series. Her motivations and the origins of her evil nature remain unexplored, sparking numerous theories and debates among fans.
Also, many have criticized her punishment: the decision to imprison Cozy Glow in Tartarus is a severe one for a child character. There was also no opportunity for redemption, as her background and reasons for her actions were left unexplored. This lack of backstory was unsatisfying to many, though it did inspire a great deal of debate, theories, and fan fiction.
Some viewers found the decision to imprison a young filly in Tartarus controversial and overly harsh, especially given her appearance as a child. Without knowing her background, it is difficult to judge whether this was justified. Popular theories suggest that she might have been backed by someone evil, had a traumatic upbringing, or perhaps wasn't even a true pony/filly at all, but rather some sort of evil creature. Personally, I hope for the latter, as any other explanation would make her imprisonment highly questionable.
The question of whether she is even capable of reformation is another difficult issue debated within the fandom. How do you reform someone who already knows everything about the lessons of friendship and yet chooses to see friendship as merely a tool for gaining power? Cozy's twisted belief that she could become the "Empress of Friendship" to rule over Equestria must have left Twilight and her friends feeling devastated and helpless, ultimately leading her to make the decision to imprison Cozy in Tartarus...
== The understanding of friendship ==
Cozy Glow as a cunning and ambitious character, views friendship as a means to gain influence and control. To her, friendship is a powerful tool - a way to manipulate others, achieve her goals, and assert dominance. Her perspective isn't entirely wrong - friendship is powerful. It connects people, builds networks, and amplifies voices, creating strength in unity. However, Cozy's understanding of friendship is shallow and manipulative. She misses that real friendship is more than power - it's mutual support, genuine trust, and shared growth.
However, true friendship isn't about control - it's about empowering each other, allowing for vulnerability and strength in equal measure. While Cozy sees friendship as transactional, she misses the heart of it: the unbreakable bonds formed by loyalty and selflessness, the kind that can't be easily wielded or twisted. In seeking power, she only finds isolation, while true friendship offers a force far beyond what she can imagine - one that transforms, uplifts, and endures.
However, Cozy gets borderline mad about the power that friendship entails... - And her face at the end doesn't tell us anything good... 👀
== The "Vortex-Megaspell" & How magic works ==
The "Vortex-Megaspell" introduced in this episode offers a fascinating exploration into how magic functions in Equestria, particularly through the ambitious and manipulative plans of Cozy Glow. Her goal to become the most powerful pony by draining magic from Equestria presents a unique take on the vulnerabilities within Equestria's magical ecosystem. Cozy Glow's spell is a near-total depletion of magic across the land, raising intriguing questions about the resilience of Equestria's interconnected magical balance. The fact that even non-sentient beings like animals and plants are affected by this magic depletion shows how intrinsic magic is to every layer of life in Equestria, not just the more obviously magical creatures.
Cozy Glow, despite being a young filly and a non-magical pegasus, manages to execute a spell with such vast reach, hinting at her possibly deeper magical potential or perhaps hidden talents that haven't been fully revealed. This leaves room for speculation about her background. Some fans suggest that she may have received training or guidance from Lord Tirek, her mysterious pen-pal, who is known for his skill in absorbing magic. Yet, the logistics of her correspondence with Tirek raise further questions - how did Cozy Glow even gain access to communicate with him? It seems implausible that Equestrian authorities would allow letters to a known villain without some form of supervision, adding another layer of mystery to her plan.
The vortex spell relies on various magical artifacts stored beneath the School of Friendship, each of which plays a role in powering the spell. Cozy Glow's ability to understand, gather, and utilize these artifacts effectively demonstrates not only her cunning but also a deep knowledge of magical systems that one wouldn't expect from a filly. The episode subtly invites curiosity about the origin and unique powers of these artifacts, as well as how Cozy learned to harness them so precisely. This storyline subtly reveals that magic in Equestria can be accessed and wielded even by non-magical beings if they possess sufficient knowledge and determination.
One of the most interesting takeaways from this episode is the implication that magic in Equestria might be a finite resource - something that can be manipulated, drained, or even exhausted. The fact that magic is interconnected across all creatures in Equestria emphasizes its delicate balance. Cozy's actions disrupt this balance, impacting not only ponies but other magical and non-magical beings as well. This ripple effect suggests a universal magical network in which the well-being of all creatures depends on the stability of magic.
The episode also categorizes magic in Equestria into three distinct types: magic inherent to creatures (such as cockatrice, cerberus and maybe even pegasi and unicorns...), spells directly cast by unicorns, and artifact-based magic. Yet, despite this classification, Cozy's actions reveal an unaccounted force - the Tree of Harmony itself. When the Young Six become trapped in the vortex spell, the Tree intervenes, suggesting that its magic exists outside of the usual classifications. Neither a creature's inherent magic, a spell, nor an artifact-based power, the Tree's magic persists even after Cozy's spell has drained every other known magical source. This remarkable resistance implies that the Tree embodies a different, perhaps higher form of magic, one that even transcends conventional understanding.
Anyway, this vortex sucked the magic out of Equestria into another realm... but to where? I have a theory about it, but now is not the right time to tell you that...
== Chancellor Neighsay ==
Chancellor Neighsay, the leader of the Equestria Education Association (EEA), initially holds strong biases against non-pony creatures. His belief that only ponies should receive education stems from a deep-seated concern for the safety and purity of Equestrian culture. This bias leads him to shut down Twilight Sparkle's School of Friendship, solely because it welcomed students of all species. But when he returns during a mysterious crisis, he seizes control of the school, which Twilight has temporarily left unattended, and even detains all non-pony students, suspecting them of causing the disruption.
Ironically, Neighsay himself becomes a pawn, falling for Cozy Glow's manipulative scheme to turn other students against him. His single-minded distrust of non-ponies blinds him to the actual danger, which is not external but rather embodied by Cozy Glow, a pony who ultimately betrays everyone. When the Young Six manage to escape and free Neighsay, they expose Cozy Glow as the real threat. Witnessing their bravery, Neighsay finally confronts his own prejudices. He allies with them to stop Cozy Glow's plans, and later, apologizes to Twilight. In a powerful moment of growth, he recognizes the value of inclusivity and the strength of friendship that spans beyond ponykind. It's a poignant moment of redemption, and in this second chance, Neighsay genuinely embraces the new vision of harmony.
There's an undeniable irony in this episode, as the threat Neighsay fears from non-pony creatures is actually a danger from within his own kind - a pony he thought he was protecting. His redemption, while meaningful and well-intentioned, does feel somewhat rushed given the entrenched nature of his bigotry earlier in the series. A more gradual progression in his transformation might have made his change in perspective feel even more believable.
In the end, Neighsay's arc reflects a compelling shift from fear and exclusion to acceptance, highlighting the strength that unity in diversity can offer to all of Equestria. His journey, though imperfect, brings an essential message about the power of second chances and the courage it takes to change long-held beliefs.
== The Tree of Harmony's Intervention ==
The Tree of Harmony reveals a remarkable and unexpected role, stepping in to protect the Student Six. The Tree's magic shields them from being pulled into the vortex, empowering them to escape and ultimately dismantle Cozy Glow's dangerous scheme. This intervention, paired with the insights from the episode "What Lies Beyond", strongly suggests that the Tree of Harmony has developed - or at least decided to reveal - a sentient awareness. This consciousness appears to be deeply invested in preserving the balance and friendships of Equestria, taking an active stance whenever that equilibrium is threatened.
It's intriguing to consider that the Tree has likely spread its roots far across Equestria, allowing it to monitor and perhaps even influence events on a broader scale. The idea that the Tree of Harmony might observe, assess, and respond directly to dangers opens up fascinating possibilities. This new level of intervention suggests that its sentience might play a more substantial role in Equestria's future, which could add layers to both its character and the challenges that lie ahead.
== Your opinions ==
Yeah, Tirek faltering so easily was more for comedic effect than truly believable at first. But it's also a form of torture that has long-term repercussions... Underestimating it would be fatal. 😅 However, in the end, though, I don't really mind - It wouldn't have made much difference, as they still couldn't stop Cozy Glow. The Student Six managed that, so it wasn't really a plot-changing device. You can take some comfort in that. 😏
And yeah, the B-plot with the Mane 6 initially seemed to be vital in stopping Cozy Glow. And as the A-plot came to a halt when Cozy turned the Student 6 against them, viewers were led to believe the Mane 6 might still save the day somehow. However, with Cozy's schemes impacting both groups, suspense built as it seemed the Mane 6 could still turn the situation around. When Twilight ultimately admitted they were too late, the anticipation shifted fully to the Student 6, marking the turning point. While this reveal made the Mane 6's subplot feel fruitless in the end, it wasn't without purpose. Until that moment, the dual-plot structure created genuine excitement and tension, keeping viewers guessing about who would ultimately stop Cozy and how. The focus on the Student 6 reinforced the idea of them as the next generation embodying the Elements of Harmony. Though the Mane 6's efforts felt underwhelming, it allowed the Student 6's triumph to shine even brighter, showcasing the legacy of friendship that the Mane 6 had taught to them. that said... you are right, that it was a bit underwhelming. But how would you have changed that?
As for Tirek's reformation... well, some people just aren't meant to be reformed 😣. Maybe it's better that way - things could get pretty boring otherwise, don't you think?
Who the heck believes that the Tree of Harmony is just a spiritual thing? 🤨 - It was evidently alive a couple of episodes before 😆
Just so you know, the School of Friendship doesn't only teach magic - it also covers a wide range of other subjects, such as artifacts, flora and fauna, and more - topics that have been mentioned several times throughout the season.
== Conclusion ==
In conclusion, School Raze was a largely successful and positively received finale, delivering a blend of excitement, character development, and unexpected twists that kept viewers engaged. Cozy Glow's role as the main villain was both surprising and refreshing, marking her as one of the series' most challenging foes with her unique, manipulative view of friendship. While certain story elements felt underused and some parts could have been developed further, it still made for an impactful and memorable episode.
The finale's world-building was a highlight, offering intriguing insights into how magic functions in Equestria and broadening our understanding of its interconnectedness. Neighsay's storyline was a standout, with the twist revealing that the true threat came from a fellow pony rather than the creatures he once feared. Watching the Student 6 - the very creatures Neighsay distrusted - rescue him not only added a powerful message of redemption but also reinforced the show's central themes of unity and acceptance.
Overall, it delivered a meaningful and dynamic conclusion, celebrating the transformative power of friendship and hinting at the legacy the Student 6 will carry forward. Despite its imperfections, it was a solid and positively regarded chapter in Equestria's story, showing that friendship and harmony continue to grow with each new generation.

Thank you for your kind words at the beginning. It's great that you gave MLP a chance and even stayed after watching the Pilot episode. - You were kind of a lucky find for me and I am glad that I have found you and that you stayed to watch it all "with" us with all your thoughts on it! - It was a long journey that I was happy to be a part of - Thank you! 💙

A lot to like and alot to dislike. It’s a bit of a mixed bag and I haven’t really felt this way about a two parter. Not a big fan of setting up for the next season approach and as we both didn’t Tirek’s weakness showing. Still, I’ll look at the positives with the young six and the neigh say learning. Definitely would have been cool to explore but I suppose it’s too deep for MLP 😅

Tbh I have a lot issues with this finale too, cozy glow being the villain is a good idea but I wish they had used neighsay more we haven’t really explored that kinda racism in the show and I do feel like he would’ve made a perfect villain I know some people thought it would be obvious but cozy working him with would’ve been a nice choice, but you’re right tirek folding was kinda lame I do understand the mane 6 being annoying for him especially pinkie but I don’t think he’d just give up like that and help them so easy like that, also yes we should’ve gotten more information on cozy because we obviously don’t know much about her, also putting her in Tartarus may have been a little extreme she is only a kid I was thinking they’d been going the redemption route for her here but I guess she gets it meet tirek in person instead, this finale was definitely mixed for me but a lot of it I did like we get a chance to see how the magic works and what of all it does and how the ponies couldn’t live without it or at least not well, so I do like how manipulative cozy is it’s great to think this whole she’s been planning this out snd working with tirek to destroy equestria.
