This is why Pearl never shapeshifted again, until Future, and it adds new depths to Pearl’s devotion to Rose/Pink with the way she freaked out at the idea of Rose having a lion aka a secret from her… “None of you had what we had!” And when she went “Not from me!” in response to Garnet saying Rose kept many secrets from us.

Steven is pink diamond but also rose, so rose was never real, pearl hid that from him so long, something nobody expected also the dream Steven had kinda connected it! it was an incredible twist.
