Discussion: S01 E06 The Winter King

Okay so that might have been the best episode of F&C so far. Maybe it’s the artistic me speaking but I loved the transitions between the two worlds, the music continues to be so well done and better then anything from S1-10, and the animations for these numbers were beautiful. I loved the parallels and transitions of the worlds as they constantly give us contrasting or scenes that relate to each other. Then add on the continued expansiveness of the world as we are thrown into a reality where the Ice King did not get consumed by the crown and instead harnessed it. He’s so confident, poised and just such a foil to Simon that it’s jarring. Then by the end we get to the reveal that the candy princess and this kingdom was actually the implanted crown onto it which means the Winter King did not own or get use to the crown. This reverts her back into PB! Might be the same VA but just older. They also go into a daycare world still planning out and thinking how morbid the idea of slaying candy people and civilians can be.

But even that isn’t the best part as Marshall and Gary’s first interaction is quite beautiful as they are the inverse of Marci and PB. It has evoked me to ship and be a yaoi lover. Their connection is genuinely beautiful and down to earth with them doing small tasks, sharing and being into each others interests; It’s delicate and careful. Then with this as the background to the F&C story, it transitioned and allowed for such softer moments that played into the more morbid and darker reveals. This was a wonderful episode and covers everything. 9-9.5/10
