To be entirely fair to Steven's dad, his business and sole means of income got entirely blocked off and damaged. I can't really blame him for having to raincheck on a little last minute concert practice, as genuinely upsetting as it may be for Steven to have to hear.

There's a lot of discussion on whether this means the "OG" Steven is "dead" now or not, but personally I take this whole episode to be like... an aborted timeline situation. Basically, I think the Steven we follow for the rest of the show arrived at the underwater temple, grabbed the time turner, then from his perspective another Steven showed up and another and another and they all started fighting and he had no idea what was going on and finally they melted into dust right before his eyes. Traumatic lol.
