I always start my recordings at 00:00:00 of the show to make timecode syncing much easier and the timecode is included. I watch through any recaps (if any) and intros. The mayor and Chouchou actually did appear in the live action too, if only briefly. So did Mohji, even though Richie didn't aside from a cameo on a poster. Remember when Buggy asked where his dancing lion was? Presumably, Richie was too expensive to animate when he wasn't as necessary to the story as, say, the Sea King in the Luffy/Shanks flashback. The fact that you thought this episode was filler kinda demonstrates that. Nope, 100% canon. :P

2023-10-13 19:23:03 +0000 UTCRemember in the second episode of the Live-action when Buggy first came to the stage and angrily asked one of his subordinates "where... Is... The Dancing... Lion?" That was a reference to Richie the Lion and his obvious lack of presence in the LA (and the subordinate was Mohji himself). That was the producers basically saying to the fans "Don't worry, we didn't forget, there was simply not enough time to put them in the adaptation", although you can see a painting of Richie in one of the walls of the room where Zoro and Nami were held captive. And ChouChou the Loyal Guard Dog also makes a cameo towards the end of that episode... Which was a beautiful touch.
