I think it's sad, but I also think it's sweet that in a way this story feels like him telling her that he does know she loves him and that he understands that she'll be more open with him when she can.

2023-12-14 20:10:31 +0000 UTCOhhh I love this episode because it's such a fun window into Steven's mind. He's so imaginative ahah. Although it's really kinda sad that a big part of this story is basically... Steven vocalizing his desire for Garnet to be more openly loving to him, bc he's speculating about WHY she's not more open with him. Given the fact I know you've seen the ep Future Vision by now, I think this episode becomes even more significant- I think it's a big turning point in how Garnet herself understands Steven's needs. I don't think she would've taken the risk to share more of herself with Steven had he not been vulnerable with her about those needs through this story. Also fun fact: The narrator at the very end was Steven's voice actor delivering in his usual speaking voice at the time. (Oh boy, he really has to stretch to reach Steven's high end tones. He starts dropping register just a bit as the season goes on, as you've already seen. Pretty sure his voice dropped RIGHT before doing the VA work for Island Adventure.)

We also get some interesting insight into how Steven views Garnet. Just a great time overall. You noticed that the Fox-Man sounds like Lars, and he is indeed voiced by Lars's voice actor. Hoppy and Hopper are also voiced by Pearl and Amethyst's VAs (the frog is Pearl and the rabbit is Amethyst).
