One bit of trivia I haven't seen mentioned is that we *have* heard Rose's voice once before - although neither we nor Steven had any way of knowing it at the time. At the end of "Rose's Room" when everything in the room is falling apart, the tiny whale asks Steven "What do you want?" instead of making the tiny whale noises. The whale's voice is Rose's.

2023-12-14 14:19:11 +0000 UTCAUGH. So much from what we've seen in the show this whole time came around to make this episode happen, in so many subtle and beautiful ways. One: Until this episode, we've never seen a depiction of Rose with her eyes open. This is the first episode that the camera has panned up to actually show her closed eyes in the painting to begin with, but it's also the first time she's been visualized with her eyes open at all. Two: The "grounded from TV" situation and Steven's relationship with Sadie. The show introduced that the Big Donut has a VCR TV a few episodes ago, when Steven watched the training video. Also, he'd shared enough vulnerable moments with Sadie that he trusted her with the contents of this personal video. He couldn't use the TV at his own house, (he'd been grounded from watching it), so he thought of the next best place.) Three: Lion, and all the weirdness thus far with Lion. The whole time, you (and many, many other viewers) have been musing and theorizing that Lion must have something to do with Rose, because he's pink and brings Steven to a place that seems very associated with her due to the overlapping imagery of roses. And now, in this episode, we finally see that this connection is 100% true. The sword that came out of Lion's head in Lion 2... that came from inside the mane dimension, from under the tree! You can see it leaning against the trunk again in this ep. It was there all along! So many of these little elements could've just been glossed over and never introduced until this episode and it still would've been a lovely time I'm sure- but the Crewniverse did such a lovely job layering them in so naturally that we the viewers never had any idea they'd be built upon or become important later on at all, and that's the HUGEST reason why I and so many others are passionate about seeing other people's first watch reactions to this show. It's so special to get to see people experience this story in particular for the first time because it just IS a special story. Thank you for all your reactions! Really enjoying these so far, can't wait to be caught up with the present in a few days.
