I always start my recordings at 00:00:00 of the show to make timecode syncing much easier and the timecode is included. I watch through any recaps (if any) and intros. So the Garp stuff that they translated into the live-action was actually more of a manga thing (it is in the anime but not where it should have been). The plotline involving Garp, Koby, and Helmeppo is roughly inspired by a manga cover story. The cover stories are these little one-page drawings Oda does at the beginning of each chapter and sadly they don't get adapted into the anime often (which I think is a shame since they are canon and could have replaced any filler the anime was forced to make in order to not catch up to the manga. Most of the time the cover stories are important way down the line so it's weird to leave them out of the anime!). The Garp cover story does in fact get animated but way down the line, they squeeze it in way further into the story but I believe the cover story was happening around this time in the manga so it made sense to adjust it into a full Garp sub plot for the live action.

2023-12-28 04:40:04 +0000 UTCGotta love how Luffy has no regard for the rules of engagement and just immediately socks Arlong in the face the first chance he gets. I think this episode does a good job showcasing both the ups and downs of Luffy's fighting style. He does crazy and impulsive things that catch enemies by surprise, like using a giant cow monster as a bovine ball-and-chain, but also fails to think things through, like that shoving his legs into a block of concrete to do so maybe isn't the best idea.
