STEVEN UNIVERSE 2x12 "Keystone Motel" Full Length Reaction

Here is my full length unedited reaction for Steven Universe! This only includes my reaction and thoughts. There is no intro. I always start my recordings at 00:00:00 of the show to make timecode syncing much easier and the timecode is included. I watch through any recaps (if any) and intros. But it always starts at 00:00:00. Must have your own copy to watch along with, since I can't offer that due to copyright laws. Streamer: Max

Ohohoh I love this lil' musing. In certain ways I like to imagine that the slow thawing of Garnet's aloofness so far is... in a way... a bit more of Ruby's emotive side shining through over time. (So I do think she's grown a bit more balanced than she was in the beginning.) But if the true state of Garnet's existence is as you suggest- one where the two of them are imbalanced within this fusion for the sole purpose of staying together, of like... continuing to be the "leader" she feels the Crystal Gems need right now in Rose Quartz' absence... it really does spin a somber sorta light on the complicated reality they face, both as individuals and as Garnet. It's honestly a concept that's really relatable when it comes to human relationships, too. (Sub-note about how in some ways, the idea of Garnet as a "perfect" relationship always felt like the fandom taking Steven's rosy childlike perspective on matters and running with it, instead of actually sitting down like you have and breaking down the canon facts of how she operates. Of course Steven would see her as the epitome of all relationships, that's his beloved guardian. But throughout the course of the show Steven's naive perspective of the world is being systematically broken down, and his understanding of the events and people around him is maturing, and with that his understanding of Garnet, and so should the viewer's understanding, tbh.) I look forward to the expansion of this discussion in future episodes, ahah.

ok i want to bring something up... because it seems a lot of the Steven Universe Fanbase don't want to talk about this... Garnet's relationship, or better said... Ruby and Sapphire's relationship... seems to be very one-sided in my opinion. Now you understand that Ruby and Sapphire are pretty much opposites in every aspect... Ruby is Red, Sapphire is Blue. Ruby is Fire, Sapphire is Ice. Ruby is hot-headed, Sapphire is cool and collected. but when you take all of those factors into consideration... it seems that the majority of Garnet's personality takes after just Sapphire. Garnet is almost always cool and collected, she acts as the focused and wise leader, it is very rarely that we see her wear her emotions on her sleeve like Ruby does. And based on Sapphire's dialogue in this episode... it seems that she is used to just dismiss Ruby's outbursts... often times refering it as "overracting". This is something that i began to notice rather recently but it makes me think that... perhaps Garnet's existence as a "relationship" is not as Perfect as the show wants us to believe, that perhaps Ruby have been and still is sacrificing a lot of her own input in order to maintain "Garnet" as stable as possible. This angle of their relationship that im talking about also leads into another whole discussion about how a Permanent Fusion such as Garnet could also be a very toxic and psicologically harmful existence to the individuals that compose it.... but that discussion is too complicated to bring up here.

"I don't like those brushes, they feel weird on your fur" Sneaker reference to the horror of the season one episode Cat Fingers, ahah. I don't think Greg put two and two together here, he looked pretty confused at Steven's comment, ahah. Fun fact- I believe it's mentioned in the artbook, but Ruby's VA gave such an energetic and dynamic voice performance that they had to re-board her expressions to be more exaggerated to match.
