I always start my recordings at 00:00:00 of the show to make timecode syncing much easier and the timecode is included. I watch through any recaps (if any) and intros. Yep, this is the first official Filler episode of the series just like the next one, but these are a special case because this is something that Oda WANTED to include in the manga but couldn't due to what Berserker88 specified. I didn't remember that Daddy's last rank in the Marines before he resigned was mentioned in the flashback. He was an Ensign... which is the First Officer Rank of the Marine Corps, pretty cool stuff. But what i love the most about the episode is Usopp's reason for crying, he wasn't happy about hearing of Yassop's prowess as a sharp-shooter, or even sad at the notion that Yassop admitted not being a good father.... he was moved because of the fact that Daddy told him that story... to inspire him and give him courage even if by doing so it would damage his raputation (as Usopp puts it)... which i think it's really cool and really unique in terms of character writting. Next episode is entertaining... but definetely my least favorite of these 2 fillers. Also yes... i did specify that from the minute 13:10 is where we begin to see Canon Content once again in episode 61.

2024-02-05 23:15:55 +0000 UTCFrom my understanding, this episode is "semi-filler" as it didn't technically appear in the manga but it was supposed to. What happened is that Oda REALLY wanted the Straw Hats to set out for the Grand Line in Chapter 100 and something had to get cut to make that happen. That something was Daddy Masterson. Usopp still gets those goggles in the manga, it just skipped the story of HOW he got them. And yes, Daddy really is his name in the original. (Though it's Daddy the Father in the dub instead of Daddy the Parent, which is even funnier imo.) You're kinda just obligated to start a family when you have a name like that.
