STEVEN UNIVERSE 2X20 "Back to the Barn" Full Length Reaction

Here is my full length unedited reaction for Steven Universe! This only includes my reaction and thoughts. There is no intro. I always start my recordings at 00:00:00 of the show to make timecode syncing much easier and the timecode is included. I watch through any recaps (if any) and intros. But it always starts at 00:00:00. Must have your own copy to watch along with, since I can't offer that due to copyright laws. Streamer: Max

And the Peridot Arc continues. In case you haven't noticed yet... Peridot breaking Steven's TV is part of an ongoing joke in the series, in the very first episode when Steven summons his Shield for the first time he accidentally broke the TV with it... and since then every now and then that same TV keeps getting broken one way or another xddd. Peridot's Relationship with Steven is adorable, they act like 2 little kids playing at being business partners xdd (even tho from Peridot's perspective their relationship is actually purely transactional). We get an outright confirmation that back in homeworld there are multiple individuals who are the same type of gem... multiple Pearls, multiple Peridots, multiple amethysts, etc. Not only that but we learned that the function of a Pearl in Gem Society is being just an "accesory", which is kinda wild. Knowing that information then what Steven says at the end is quite true.... Our Pearl is truly remarkable. In that same subject we also learned that all types of gems most likely only have one primary function... Pearls are "assistants" to put it lightly, Peridots are Technicians, etc. Your observation is true Mikey..... Knowing that Pearls are meant to simply serve other Gems as their Masters... that does imply things about her Relationship with Rose. We Get Giant Robots! In a Competition! this specific montage was so fun and hilarious... from the Tree getting a score to the competition of painting Amethyst being labeled as "subjective" xddd. We get to see Pearl wearing her space suit once again, which i personally love... we haven't seen it since the "Space Race" episode back in Season 1. You're right once again Mikey... It's pretty Weird that Steven has the idea that Giant Robots shouldn't fight. I wonder if that is due to him being a very sweet and naive kid... or if that it's the actual standard in this alternate Version of Earth. And once again.... The episode ends with Peridot learning a little more of how things work here on Earth... This is a very satisfying arc to witness because we understand where Peridot is coming from... she has never visited Earth before the events of the series and therefore her view of things it's only based on what Homeworld society has taught her. Our Adorable Angry Green Dorito comes off as very Arrogant and narrow-minded but it's thanks to this that her eventual realization and comprehension of the Crystal Gems feels so natural, well-paced and satisfying.

I like that Pearl doesn't actually win the fight at the end. In a lot of shows, when they want to indicate that a character who is fighting with another character is the one with the correct viewpoint, they have said character win the fight. This is understandable as a writing decision, but it still leans on the idea that might makes right. But SU resists this impulse. Pearl loses the fight, and that's okay. It doesn't undermine anything she's said or done up until now. Peridot is still wrong, no matter how many giant robot fights she wins.
