STEVEN UNIVERSE 2X25 "Message Received" Full Length Reaction

Here is my full length unedited reaction for Steven Universe! This only includes my reaction and thoughts. There is no intro. I always start my recordings at 00:00:00 of the show to make timecode syncing much easier and the timecode is included. I watch through any recaps (if any) and intros. But it always starts at 00:00:00. Must have your own copy to watch along with, since I can't offer that due to copyright laws. Streamer: Max

Hell yeah Yellow D is officially in the house! I find Peridot's whole perspective here and all the subtle hints that she wasn't actually wanting to fully betray the CGs very interesting- Essentially, she believed her leader was the most objective and logical decision maker in the whole universe, so SURELY she should see the vast potential of Earth's unique resources if it's pointed out to her, right? When she was in the truck and said "you simple clods keep trying to protect the Earth, but you can't do anything right! [...] All that matters is that I'm of use to Yellow Diamond! This planet can be of use to Yellow Diamond!" you can tell she's trying to explain this. She DOES believe Earth should be saved, she IS trying to help the Crystal Gems, but... it's not fully in the way the CGs agree with. Her envisioning of a "saved Earth" is one that is an asset to the Gem Homeworld, and of course the CGs don't want anything to do with their homeworld. And then when she was communicating with Yellow, the hero worship got ripped away. Yellow wasn't listening to her logic and reason. Instead... just as was her issue with the Crystal Gems... Yellow was letting her emotions drive her decisions: "Good. We'll finally get some use out of that miserable planet." "And I will take immense satisfaction at erasing that hideous planet off of our star maps!" Thus, her beloved leader... is not as objective and flawless as she once thought. And like dominos, her whole understanding of the universe around her crumples. If Yellow isn't perfect, then what does that mean for everything else she once thought? In sum, I love the writing in this ep, I think it's really clever in how it sets up such nuance to Peridot's reasoning for her actions and her official turn to being a rebel in just a few quick lines. _ A final silly note, the music during the Yellow Diamond scene always jump scares me with its punchy lil scare chords if it comes up when I'm trying to drift to sleep with my soundtrack playlist on shuffle. It's so unsettling, the composers really did a great job making Yellow's theme sound so unsettling.

Just saying... This episode was a HUGE DEAL when it came out, the Diamonds were something that the fandom was intensely speculating about ever since Jasper mentioned Yellow for the first time back in the Season 1 Finale. We finally meet Yellow Diamond! one of the Gem Matriarchs nonetheless... and you're right... she's majestic and she's MEAN xdd. And yes, she does have a Great Voice.... her voice is done by Patti Lupone, a Veteran Musical Theater Actress... she has been in both Broadway and West End. We also meet another Pearl... Yellow Diamond's Pearl this time. i must commend Dedee Magno Hall's performance... she managed to make this Pearl sound unique and distinctive from our Pearl but also without sounding like a completely different character... acknowledging that they're both Pearls but with very different personalities. Also that moment of Yellow Pearl sliding into the camera with a big Grinch smile on her face was GOLD, it became a very popular meme back in the day. And Peridot is officially a Crystal Gem now! and with her introduction into the team began a very funny tendency/joke in the fandom in regards to her "Star", becase in case you haven't noticed..... the Crystal Gem's official symbol is a Star and all of it's members have it in their outfits.... So after the release of this episode the fandom began asking and speculating when Peridot was gonna get a Star in her outfit... so much so that even her voice actress (Shelby Rabara) got into the bandwagon of the joke and publicly asked Rebecca Sugar "when am i gonna get my star?" in a Comic-Con xddd.
