ONE PIECE Ep 68 "Try Hard, Koby! Diary of Koby-Meppo's Marine Struggles" Full Length Reaction

Here is my full length unedited reaction for One Piece! This only includes my reaction and thoughts. There is no intro. I always start my recordings at 00:00:00 of the show to make timecode syncing much easier and the timecode is included. I watch through any recaps (if any) and intros. But it always starts at 00:00:00. Must have your own copy to watch along with, since I can't offer that due to copyright laws. Streamer: Netflix

ONE PIECE Ep 68 "Try Hard, Koby! Diary of Koby-Meppo's Marine Struggles" Full Length Reaction

Yep, This is an adaptation of the Second Cover Story that Oda did in the Manga after the first one focused on Torso-less Buggy. This short story while being very simple in structure it also touches on some really interesting and deep themes.... the one that struck me the most was the scene of Helmeppo conflicted about the fate of his father, it is a surprisingly emotional moment... how the until now bad-mouthed and Egocentric Helmeppo bursted into tears and begins to ask questions to Koby like "You think they're gonna execute him?"..... Because... yeah... Morgan was a peace of shit as person and as a father... but even still he was the only parental figure Helmeppo had (that we know of) so of course he had an attachment to him, and it must be a really horrible feeling.... to know that your parent... the person that you've admired your whole life... is about to be killed/executed, regardless if morgan deserves such fate or not... that is a feeling that no Son or Daughter should experience. Morgan's actions were also a surprise here.... cuz of course he took Helmeppo as a hostage, we already stablished that he is a bad person.... but then when he no longer needed him as a Hostage he could've easily kill him and Koby right there and then, if they really meant nothing to him like he's been saying the whole time it should've been easy.... but he chosed not to... maybe there's a bit of a heart hidden somewhere in all that filth after all. And of course we can't forget that we got the official introduction of Garp and Bogard, and man.... watching this episode once again after so much time really puts things into perspective..... how the hints that Garp and Luffy are related were already there from the beginning.

I totally forgot about this episode too. Or rather, when it happened. At least the anime showed us a BIT of Koby's journey, even if I do honestly prefer the way the live action handled it as a nice parallel throughout. Man, I do miss Scottish Garp though. XD
