STEVEN UNIVERSE 3X4 "Barn Mates" Full Length Reaction

Here is my full length unedited reaction for Steven Universe! This only includes my reaction and thoughts. There is no intro. I always start my recordings at 00:00:00 of the show to make timecode syncing much easier and the timecode is included. I watch through any recaps (if any) and intros. But it always starts at 00:00:00. Must have your own copy to watch along with, since I can't offer that due to copyright laws. Streamer: Max

Yeah, I think it makes sense that many people (even me, too!) initially responded to Lapis' dislike of Peridot with "hey now-!" We the audience have been sorta walking in Peridot's shoes the last handfuls of eps, and have experienced her development first hand. I think with that, it can often be easy to forget that Lapis was never there to see that development herself and has no reason to immediately trust her, and is letting her trauma take over the situation. Still doesn't make her actions okay- especially crushing Peridot's sweet gift- but it certainly does help rationalize them. I love that this show plays with these layers, though- it makes the resulting discussion so rich, and gives me so many new things to discover and learn and glean with every rewatch.

i don't know much about the english-speaking fandom... but at least in the spanish-speaking community at the time... this episode really caused a lot of people to hate Lapis (me included), i guess it was because Peridot quickly became the Fandom's favorite. Obviously that stuff is past me now, specially now that i have the emotional maturity to know where Lapis is coming from, but it's an interesting experience getting to rewatch this show now and comparing it with how i experienced it when i was 15-16 years old.

This is a nice lil' "getting used to the new normal" sort of ep. It's really fun to start integrating Lapis into the group like this- tons of things have changed since she last interacted with the Crystal Gems, so it makes sense that she would be really hesitant to accept what's changed and to trust others' intentions. Ahah you're so right- Peridot and Steven really did need to just let things settle for a while instead of trying to push it with Lapis. Most of this is Steven's fault, I think- he's always struck me as a chronic "meddler." The sort of person who wants every single problem in the room sorted by midday, if at all possible. He means well, he genuinely does, but also... m'guy... it's not your duty to solve every single interpersonal issue around you. Sometimes the parties involved just need to take time to mediate it themselves. I LOVE the ruby cliffhanger at the end, and also think it's really neat to see a Gem whose gemstone replaces an eye. It's a unique lil gem placement. Thank you for another fun reaction, looking forward to the next as always!
