STEVEN UNIVERSE 3X20 "Bismuth" Full Length Reaction

Here is my full length unedited reaction for Steven Universe! This only includes my reaction and thoughts. The video for the show is blurred and muted because of copyright, and I’m not trying to get in trouble. There is no intro. I always start my recordings at 00:00:00 of the show to make timecode syncing much easier and the timecode is included. I watch through any recaps (if any) and intros. But it always starts at 00:00:00. Must have your own copy to watch along with, since I can't offer that due to copyright laws. Streamer: Max

Nearly caught up! I should have stopped for the night a few episodes back, but I really wanted to get through to this episode. As is more often the case than not, Novantinuum and Julio have already shared most of the good trivia about the episode. You looked up the voice actress for Bismuth but didn't recognize her from anything. Uzo Aduba started out as a theater actress, but when she was cast for this she was most well known for the character of Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren in the Netflix show Orange is the New Black.

This is the other episode of the Season besides "Mr. Greg" which is a Candidate to the Title of Best Episode of the Entire Show. It's just IMMACULATE, i really can't decide between the 2 of them. So yeah... as you noticed... this was a double-length episode and there's a good reason for it, it's not just that we're meeting a new really cool and complex character.... This is in fact the 100th episode of the show! it was a special ocassion so they had to make it longer. We Meet Bismuth! and this not something that came out of nowhere, we've technically known of her existence since Season 1..... more especifically since the episode "Lion 3: Straight to Video" where Steven entered the Dimension inside Lion's mane for the first time. She was right there the whole time, in that bubble alongside other of Rose's prized possessions like the Rebellion Flag, the T-Shirt that Greg gave her, the tape she made for Steven, and also that mysterious Chest that still that hasn't been opened or even talked about yet. Bismuth has a really cool design indeed, that Rainbow Hair really sticks out.... it almost looks familiar....... oh wait, it does look familiar... because we've also seen it before! in the episode "Same Old World" from this same season we see the backstory of Lapis, and in that same flashback we see the gem who puffed her... a Gem with a Large Build and Raibow Hair. Which is to say... that it is heavely implied that Bismuth was the cause of Lapis being confused for a Crystal Gem and eventually getting locked up inside that mirror for Thousands of Years. In case you don't remember, Amethyst didn't participate in the Gem War, as Peridot herself said once... The Hole in the Kindergarden she came out of it's 500 years newer than the rest.... so it makes sense why she doesn't know Bismuth. Bismuth's Theme Music it's Amazing, Aivi and Surasshu really outdid themselves this time, they managed to create a Heavy Metal Sound within the Electronic music genre... it sounds so heavy and "Industrial"... it reminds me a little bit of Metal Mario's theme from the original Super Smash Bros, it really fits Bismuth's Character. But now it's time to get to the meat of this episode..... Bismuth herself, her character, her motivations, her downfall, etc. As others have said already.... Bismuth isn't really a Bad Person, that much is made apparent throughout the episode.... what we are witnessing here with her character is a Radicalized Individual, someone who's participation in a particular conflict have shaped them so much and have given themselves so much for a cause that they end up completely Demonizing the other side. But it's not that she's not valid in what she's saying..... because it's true... based on what we've seen of Yellow and Blue Diamond it really hammers home that they really don't give a shit about Earth and the living creatures that live there. They truly are tyrannical figures, not just to the Crystal Gems but to the rest of Homeworld Gems as well. Reaching the conclusion that you simply cannot allow individuals like those to continue existing it's not without merit. So it really paints a really complicated and tragic picture... Bismuth... a loyal, dedicated, affectionate and funny Gem who loved her friends and her cause... but who fell to the clutches of Hatred... having her ideals and hopes shut down by Rose... the Gem she looked-up the most, because she didn't want to win by killing their enemies. But what is truly heart-breaking is what Bismuth says to Steven at the end of their confrontation... "You should've shattered me back then, at least if i were in pieces i wouldn't have to know how little i mattered to you..... you didn't even tell them.... you bubbled me away and ever tell your friends, my friends". It's so sad but yet so true.... by killing Bismuth Rose could've have spared her the pain of knowing she was just going to continue being "disappeared"..... a small footnote in history, a mere memory in her friend's minds... and a disappointment to the one she truly believed in. Rose and Steven may not like it.... but sometimes killing can also be considered a mercy. And then that final line just gut-punches you into oblivion.... "Then you really are Better than Her" And she's going back into the Bubble... back into non-existing.... with the relief of knowing that Steven will be a Better Leader than his mother was.... but also with the despair of knowing that she will never see her beloved friends ever again. What an incredibly Tragic and Amazing Character Bismuth turned out to be... in just one single episode. A True Masterclass of Writting. Sorry for the Long Comment... it's just that this is one of those few episodes that reeeeeally stuck with me, i love Bismuth... both the episode and the character, Uzo Aduba did a God-Tier Job voicing her. Great Reaction as Always Mikey.
