As we all know from a little planet called Namek, an anime minute is a lot longer than a real minute. (Just to bring up a show that... isn't as good about not sidelining characters.) I assumed you were going to just listen to the new intro and not watch it, but skipping it entirely works too. At least you'll see it eventually.

How will you avoid looking at the visuals? that is something you have to figure out on your own xdd. Or you can simply skip it like you said, whatever you think is best. To answer your question.... there are currently 26 openings in the One Piece Anime. Also a little fun fact: When Miss Merry Christmas says "Ba" in her sentences she's trying to say "Baka" which is the japanese word for "Idiot" but because she always gets so worked up she always ends up cutting words short.
