STEVEN UNIVERSE 5X2 "The Trial" Full Length Reaction

I won't go into much details cuz spoilers... but at this point it is well known that the writing process of both Season 4 and Season 5 were messy. In short... every episode was always scripted by a team of 2 people, and usually those teams remained consisted (not always but it was consistent), and throughout all of season 1, 2 and 3 the teams of writters that were made for each episode had already built very good chimestry and knew how to bounce off each other with the best ideas for dialogues and direction. But then... for some undisclosed reason (and also because some of the original writters left the show) in Season 4 they decided to re-arrange the stablished teams for the scripts, with people that had already worked on previous season but never worked with each other... and also original writters of the show with new people that just arrived to the production. This by itself wouldn't have been that big of problem if this new set of Script Teams were kept as they were in Season 5..... but they didn't. Again for some undisclosed reason the teams were re-arranged once again for the production of Season 5 which of course led to some clunky and messy writting for a lot of the episodes of the season... as well as the overall direction of story (Rebecca is not only one who makes the big decisions)..... and it is definetely noticeable. There are of course other reasons why i think these last 2 seasons are not as good as what came before.... but i won't talk about it just yet (Spoilers).

Okay, finally back to watch through these in earnest! _ I adore the sense of mystery and intrigue this episode brings to everything. It does a great job at setting up a lot of interesting contradictions with the stories Steven and the viewer have already heard from other Gems. I also found it really surprising at first that Gemkind would actually have a court system- but given the way Blue and Yellow seem to be the sole deciders of one's fate during a trial ("Time to execute!") as opposed to any sort of jury, I kinda get the sense that it's more like entertainment to them than any true desire to be fair and impartial in their judgement. The gag where Blue Pearl draws a picture of Steven falling off the pillar on her little floaty screen makes me laugh every time, ahahah. I also remember losing my MIND watching this for the first time and getting that first shot of Homeworld from outside, I just think it looks really cool here. Lots of neat background design work.

What lol? S4 and S5 aren't as good as S3?? Dang I keep hearing a few people say that, and yet S5 is my absolute favorite. Different pastures for different people.

I just recently noticed this detail... but the Zircons are voiced by Amy Sedaris, who is better known for voicing Princess Carolyn in Bojack Horseman, one of the best written characters in animation history (althought that can be said about all of the main characters in Bojack). And i must admit... even if Season 4 and 5 aren't as good as Season 3... i can say for sure that this is one of my favorite episodes of the whole series. The tension and the suspense throughout the trial was palpable. The Fandom also enjoyed this episode a lot, mainly for the fact that Blue Zircon pretty much summarized a lot of the theories the community have been making for years at this point. One little detail of this episode i really like is how Blue and Yellow Pearl handle the Trial differently. Yellow Pearl seems be a very traditional and practical gem just like her Diamond so it was expected that she was recording the whole thing via writing, while Blue Pearl on the other hand was making her record with drawings. That is a neat little way to show characterization without losing the focus of the episode. Blue and Yellow Diamond themselves were incredibly characterized here, one would think that Yellow would be the most cruel and scary due to her outward demeanor... but since Blue is the one who has been constantly mourning Pink Diamond for millennia... it makes sense that she is the one who would like to deliver the worst punishment possible to the supposed culprit. And finally.... just like Blue Zircon deduced that Rose Quartz getting close to Pink Diamond doesn't make sense, there's another piece of information that doesn't make sense. Blue Diamond affirmed that Rose used a Sword to shatter Pink Diamond... so we have to assume that she was talking about Rose's iconic sword who is currently wielded by Connie, but the thing is.... We met Bismuth, who was the one who forged that weapon... and she confirmed to Steven that Rose's sword was specifically designed to only destroy the physical body of gems... not shatter them. The Breaking Point is the weapon that shatters gems (Steven even mentioned it in this episode) not the sword, so.... what's the deal there??
