STEVEN UNIVERSE 5X24 "Legs From Here to Homeworld" Full Length Reaction

Also i just wanted to say..... The introduction of White Diamonds was such Looooooong time-coming to the point that it almost became dragged out, her existence has been teased ever since Season 2 and yet she was never even mentioned up until this episode, which was quite frustrating if im being honest xddd. But aside from that.... her debut was IMPOSING to say the least, Pearl wasn't kidding when she said that White isn't like other Gems or even like other Diamonds. Everything from the bright and completely white and black color-scheme, to the extremely detailed eyes and lips..... to the fact that only her face is animated while the rest of her body is simply drawn like an object of the background. She really looks like an other-wordly being, almost Divine even. Her dialogue reflects this too.... the way she talks to "Pink" like she was never affected by her supposed shattering, and how she sees Pink's whole life and adventure as Rose Quartz as a mere game that she played for 6.000 years... and asking that if she finally got whatever she had out of her system.... The way she talks does really convey the feeling that she's Far above everyone else in Gem Society, that she is the true Leader and Matriarch of Homeworld. Props to Christine Ebersole (amazing Actress) for bringing to life to such an imposing and other-wordly character. Also one final detail for this comment... Notice how White's Pearl is not voiced by Deede Magno Hall... who has been giving voice to all the pearls in the show. Instead this new Pearl with a broken eye is given voice by Christine Ebersole herself, which is very interesting.

It's interesting to see how the 4 Diamonds differentiate each other in terms of both powers and personality. Yellow has powers that lets her affect the physical form of gems, that's how she can poof them so quickly with a single zap... as well as manipulating how they look. It is also very possible that the Destabilizer Weapons that the Homeworld Gems use were created using Yellow's power as a base. Blue's powers manifest in the raw emotions of Gems, that's why every gem around her feels what she is currently feeling, and that's why Nephrite (Centi) regained her previous consciousness but was overwhelmed by the very last emotion she felt before she became corrupted. Pink's powers seem to affect the actual mind, which makes sense given how many psychic powers Steven has manifested, that's why he was able to re-arrange Nephrite's overwhelmed psyche and calm her overflowing emotions. However the effects of their powers doesn't last unless they are applying it directly, that's seems to be role that White Diamonds fulfills, she's the glue that ties everything together. Which also makes sense since the "Colour" White contains all other colors of the spectrum within itself. Their individual personalities are also a very interesting topic of discussion... because i remember reading about how the Diamonds are supposedly representations of the "4 Temperaments", as in... Choleric, Melancholic, Sanguine and Phlegmatic. Yellow is Choleric (Extroverted, results-oriented, assertive, slow on social activities, ambitious, not very empathetic) Blue is Melancholic (introverted, detail-oriented, analytical, "they are not trying to be right, they are driven to figure out what is right"). Pink is Sanguine (extroverted, people-oriented, playful, activity-prone, easily amused and very easily bored as well). White is Phlegmatic (Introverted, service-oriented, easygoing, passive in both favorable and unfavorable enviroments, patient, lack of sense of urgency, "accomodating to strangers but easily irritated when taken out of their routine"). And i think the descriptions of each one fits pretty well with their respective characters.

I enjoyed hearing your current musings on White Diamond's vibes. This is certainly a big wallop of an introduction for her, that's for sure. I really, really like her design, it's quite striking. The only character in this show who we've seen have such detailed eyes. This episode actually had a lot of leak issues, for whatever reason- I believe there was a whole segment of the beginning of this (with the Diamonds all just hanging out casually in front of Steven's damaged house, with BISMUTH of all people there) that leaked long before the separation arc with Ruby and Sapphire in blurry images and no audio clips. At the time, people were like "uhhh... what?" because everything going on in said leak was so out of nowhere. Absolutely wild. I don't think I ran into this leak back in the day, and I kinda feel lucky. That certainly would've spoiled a lot of the surprise of Reunited. And THEN a messy copy of the entire episode was posted online before official airing because they premiered it at SDCC and of course someone video recorded it. The crew of this show must have been stressed and annoyed beyond all belief, oof. I think it's interesting to see how Yellow and Blue end up using basically a reverse of the powers they've been shown to have thus far to try and fix the corrupted "Centipeedle," or- Nephrite, as we now know she is. We've seen Yellow use that electric-y power to rip a Gem's form apart and make them poof, yes- but here she uses it to do the opposite, to try and piece a Gem's form back together instead. Blue has been shown with a strong emotional manipulation based power set, forcing Gems to cry her tears, but here she uses her power to seemingly calm this corrupted Gem down. My final lil note is just a silly one- there's this one frame of Bismuth making the BEST "uhh... what" sort of reaction while Steven is trying to take off in the damn leg ship and it genuinely makes me bust out laughing every time, lol... I really AM so glad to have her back in the story, she's such a fun and enjoyable presence.
