The Big highlight of this episode for me is definitely the fact that Ruby and Sapphire are spending more time un-fused and doing their own things, separately. In past reactions i mentioned how the concept of fusion... while fun and interesting on the surface... can also be very dreadful on an existencial level. Steven Universe obviously doesn't tackle the existencial dread of fusions but still.... im glad for them in terms of their relationship... not dedicating ALL of your existence to your romantic partner will lead to a more balanced and healthy relationship overall, that's one of the reasons Garnet was never one of my favorite characters in the original series. But here we see that Ruby and Sapphire are taking the right steps towards a more balanced existence, one where both of them have complete agency of their own individual lives, while still loving and supporting each other. And then there's the rest of the episode xddd....... The lyrics of the song Steven wrote for Connie are indeed.... very romantic, but at the same time.... very concerning on a personal level, because he's basically admitting that... rigth now.... he doesn't like being himself, that he much rather be with Connie and stay fused with her as Stevonnie forever. Steven is trying to find an escape to the void he currently feels in his life, and just like Ruby and Sapphire once did.... he's hoping that by staying close to the person he loves.... he can fill the hole in both his heart and mind. But as Garnet herself said here "Your soulmate is your complement, Not your missing piece", A really valuable lesson that Steven clearly did not take at heart at the end. Fun Fact: you mentioned the Jam and Toast on the screen... but i bet you didn't remember that in the original show Steven and Connie used to call each other "Jam Buds", they even made a song about it (episode "Sworn to the Sword" of Season 2). The Jam and Toast during Steven's Song is a cute reference to that. Fun Fact 2: the glowing bracelet Steven used to propose is also another cute reference to the original show, because it was precisely thanks to a glowing bracelet that Steven and Connie even became friends in the first place (if you go back to the episode "Bubble Buddies" of Season 1 you will remember why that is the case). Finally i want to say that i appreciate how you opened up a bit about your own personal romantic situations, i wrote my comment progressively as i watched your reactions so it was nice to see that what i wrote also coincides with what you talked about. 2024-11-20 22:21:16 +0000 UTCYou were a little more optimistic than me watching this episode, I spent 80% of the episode with my face in my hands praying to whoever that somebody, ANYBODY stop steven from doing this. I was straight up MORITFIED when they told him to propose, and he agreed lol! It's times like these we really need Greg.
