ONE PIECE EP 229 "Running Sea Train! The City of Water, Water 7" Full Length Reaction

Comments

I should also point out that in the manga, the whole confrontation with Aokiji is also part of LRLL, not Water 7. So the original intent was more like a comedy skit that suddenly hits you in the face with a big chunk of plot at the very end.

The opening for this season has VERY light spoilers but overanalyzing could point you to some bigger spoilers. I would watch it around the half way point of the arc to be safe

The arc is long but good, like eating a big portion of your favorite food.

To answer some of your Questions.... No, a good chunk of the Strawhats don't know what a Train is, or at least they haven't seen one in real life.... the islands where they lived the majority of their lives didn't have that kind of Technology. The Water 7 Arc specifically has 34 episodes in total, so it ends on episode 263. Oda likes to draw inspiration from places in the real world for his Islands.... and just like Alabasta was heavily inspired by Egypt and the Arabic Countries.... Water 7 is very inspired by Venice and Italy in General.

Welcome to Water 7! People like this Arc a lot and for good reason, it is not my personal favorite but it is in my Top 5. Water 7 is also the name of the whole Saga you're in right now, which includes Long Ring Long Land, Water 7, the Arc after it and a small mini-arc that acts as an epilogue to the whole Saga. Also the fact that you reached this Arc now of all times.... is actually quite moving and bittersweet, i can't talk why that is the case yet but i will in the future (don't worry, this is not something related to the story, it is something that happened in real life).

Julio Castillo

This is the one! The arc that's almost universally agreed to be the best of earlier One Piece. Get ready for the ride. You're going to be in a very different head space by the end of this arc. To answer your question - yep, it's a long one. Not just Water 7, but the story line continues for a couple of arcs.

Is it that strange for y'all that Oda just wanted to have Fun without having to commit to the larger story of his manga?, like.... sure, it is valid to not like the Arc but given how much comedy One Piece has... having an Arc that is basically just a big Comedy Skit makes total sense to me. And besides... it's not like LRLL doesn't have ANY value for the Greater Narrative.... after all this is the Arc where Zoro and Sanji set aside their differences and worked as a team for the first time, which was a very important event in the context of the StrawHat Crew as a unified group.

Julio Castillo

Most of the hate for LRLL is mainly because half of it is filler, and to this day, it's an irrelevant arc, you can skip it, and you won't lose any info of relevancy to the story, even if Oda were to bring back the Davy Back fights, he could just give a quick explanation about it.

Krolliox

Honestly, I've always loved LRLL and I'm shocked by the hate I'm seeing towards it. Its unique premise alone elevates it high for me, as someone who is a total sucker for any kind of tournament arc. But I guess not everyone who tuned into the pirate show was looking for that sort of arc. Then again, I imagine people also weren't tuning in to leave the entire world behind and go into the sky for 50+ episodes, so yeah, I completely understand why people prefer LRLL over Skypiea actually.

Berserker88

People like LRLL? It's hot garbage. It still astounds me to this day that Oda could write something so horrible knowing what he's done before then and what comes after. It's really jarring too going from G8 (100% filler) that is considered good to great depending on who you ask into something that is 100% (Foxy returns filler notwithstanding) canon that is just so awful.

Here we are. The start of my absolute favorite arc in all of One Piece. I am so super hyped for this one. :)

Berserker88

I am so glad Long Ring Long Land is over. I know people like it, but it's just my least favorite arc in all of One Piece. It burnt me out heavily when I was originally watching the anime. I cannot understand how people think Skypiea is worse than LRLL. Anyway, Water 7 is just as good as people hype it up to be. After LRLL I switched to the manga for the rest of One Piece, and it's actually (technically) worse on the manga than the anime, which is basically a rarity for whole arcs. Also, when people say "Water 7" arc, they are usually combining both the Water 7 arc and the next arc afterwards, or do "Water 7 / [ARC]".

ZM

The Water 7 Saga consisting of the (correctly guessed) Water 7 Arc, its continuation, and a small epilogue arc are 94 episodes. Not counting the 15 episodes of the Long Ring Long Land Arc which you've already watched. I'm very excited to see the reaction for all this stuff. I haven't been following your OP reactions in a hot minute since Sky Island isn't really my favorite and I just can't stand the Foxy crap but it's good to be back.

7anzibar

This arc is the first game changer in One Piece and it really expands your view of the Op's world

Cranks Lolo

Water Seven along with its continuation are 100 or so episodes long but they are SO WORTH IT

Let's go! My favorite island in the series and my favorite arc in the series is finally here
