In the original "Star Trek" episode "Miri", Yeoman Janice Rand did get tied up, but extremely badly using heavy hemp rope, and no gag. She would have been done justice being tied *to* her wooden chair, tied at the usual places we tie women, a thick cleave gag, her hands behind the chair and bound tightly to it with proper-sized rope. After all she WAS being held hostage!
