Hey Miniature Makers!
Just wanted to share this quick video we put together for the new 'Climbable Cliffs' set, showing you how we got them from print to complete, with some simple steps!
The video moves fast, so I wanted to give you guys a list of each of the steps I used, and some additional details that we weren't able to include in the video.
1) Base Coat: Mixed some White, Black, and Dark Blue for a blueish grey. I also added a few drops of water to make it easy to apply quickly! Allow to dry at least partially before proceeding.
2) Undertone 1: Mixed some blue with a few drops of black to get this dark navy-ish blue colour. Allow to dry at least partially before proceeding.
3) Undertone 2: Mixed some orange with a few drops of black to bring down the brightness a little bit. Allow to dry at least partially before proceeding.
4) Grey Wash: Added quite a bit more water to my original base coat grey mixture to make a wash out of it. Allow to dry FULLY before proceeding.
5) Black Wash: My black wash is made of Black Acrylic Ink, Matte Medium, and a few drops of Dish soap (jet dry) to help improve flow. Watch out for any of that good old pooling!
6) Dry brush: I used a pretty small brush to be able to get into the tight spots, and a beige tonne to highlight all the rocky goodness.
7) Applying Glue: Grabbed a brush that has seen better days, and used it to apply Mod Podge to the surface.
7) Flock (Optional): Depending on the look you're going for, you may not need any flock. I used 'Army Painter - Battlefield Grass Green' The satisfaction of applying this stuff to finish off your work...unreal haha. Great product (no affiliation) but use whatever you prefer, or nothing at all! Tap it off really well, and set it to fully dry.
8) Matte Varnish: If you have gone with flocking, It's a good idea to seal pieces like this with a varnish to keep all of your grass in place as you move it around, store it, and have minis on top of it. It will keep your grass and paint looking fresh for much longer!
I hope this helps to clarify any details for that super short video! Looking forward to hearing how it goes for those who try it out, and let us know if you have any other questions about this process.
Keep on rollin'
