WIP build and Progress Update

-v3 fixed door locks not working. Needs more testing, but seems to work so far.

-v4 fixed more door lock bugs. Fixed egg birth scenes not kneeling

- v5 items you bring to dreams will now remain in your inventory upon waking up, provided they have not been used.

- v5 fixed baldness when using the needle on the first dream in freeplay

- v5 weather effects don't cut off when reaching map edges

New dream area demo available. It's not finished yet, but you should have a look anyway. I don't think it will visually change at this point, though I might move the painted forest to a separate location.

Press F1 in game. This skips all regular transition procedures, so I wouldn't recommend you keep playing the game after, even loading a save.

Note that all puzzles are turned off as I don't want to ruin the experience with broken content.

Feedback on framerate and performance in general would be helpful.

Sound

The game has a functioning sound system now! And music!

Various sound effects, ambiance and soundtracks have been added to most locations.

Let me know how it feels. I'm struggling to find a balance between ambiance and music.

There's still a lot of work to be done with sound but I'm not unhappy how it turned out. Next step is to add effects to various in game objects. i.e fridge hum.

Weather

There is now a weather system. Light rain and heavy rain affect sound, indoors and outdoors and create particle effects outdoors.

There's also snow, but it's currently unused. I haven't figured out how to leave snow decals without exploding your computer yet.

At the start of the day the game rolls for each period starting from dawn to see if it rains. Current rate is 20%, which is very high, but this is a demonstration.

If it hits, that period and the next 2 will have either rain or heavy rain.

You can force these with F2 to cycle weather. Visuals work in the park intro, outside school, street corner and the forest dream. Audio changes in most places. Try it in the forest dream after pressing f1

Mechanics

Have reworked how nightmares, health and mind function.

Rather than locking into a nightmare when Mind goes to zero, the game will now instead check if it goes to zero when going to bed/passing out, after dissonance/cohesion checks.

If it does, the nightmare is randomly selected, rather than tied to the last dream area. Probably not a good idea and needs more testing, but people find ways to break the game anyway. Might as well have them all available.

If it goes to zero by any means in the dream world, the nightmare triggers immediately.

It can also go below zero, however it's not visually represented and the stat resets to 50 after a nightmare.

Basically, this should allow players to have better control on when nightmares happen, while still enforcing a necessity to maintain stats if they don't want to get them.

The same applies to Body. In addition, Body no longer acts as a threshold for Mind and Will.

This will have strange effects on saves that have a nightmare in the queue, but I don't have a solution for that.

I guess the way to handle this is to run the previous version, experience the nightmare, then load the new save in this version.

Or you could open up the save file in notepad and change the nightmare event value so it look like this: ["nightmare_event",0.0]. I don't encrypt save files.

Otherwise, this version has all of the additions the latest version of Coffee Extra had (controls, gui, item holding, etc.)

Notable bug fixes

Screen won't double fade now when transitioning areas

Chastity cage doesn't appear by default on one of the poses anymore

I'll post this publicly once the Forest is finished.

Between subscribestar and patreon, the vote count is uncomfortably close. So following that, I would like to complete Coffee Extra.

It's normal, but I've changed how it works anyway. The game will now remember which items were brought and used up in dreams.

Fixed the camera issue and cured baldness. I'm surprised so many of you managed to grab the bad version. It was up for less than 2 hours. Since you already have it anyway, try pressing f1 with Kari around.

Rain effects visually cut off if the pc and camera disconnect from each other near map edge on certain maps(i.e. street corner). in free play when initially going to sleep after loading in and using the needle, will wake up with a different character with no hair. (first version coffee 20240819, haven't tested on new patch yet) when pressing f1 it crashes cause it tries to load sceneOral1 instead of transitioning to the forest dream area, none of the f1-12 keys do so.

performance seems fine in the new area with any weather, but ive never had any performance issues with the game. Is it normal to loose all your items after a "nightmare"? I had a cooked pizza coke and pills when i went to bed after speaking to Kari in the kitchen after the first day of school and when i woke up from the nightmare i had no items.

on the Coffee Story 20240819v3 WIP i cant get into the first locked door in the initial dream, text on the card show 1 the door shows 1 but the info text for the card shows lv2 card. and flashes red when trying to open the door

The sound has been a great addition to both games, was definitely something very needed, excited to try this out will let you know if I encounter any major bugs.

Well, i can't seem to get to that area to test it again, as i can't get any locked doors to activate. Tried hold keys/key cards and using c/0 on the num pad, tried just activating from the inventory... am I doing something wrong?

Seems to still be working. You select a piece at the clothes rack, bring it to the register and use the item in the inventory. If it's not obvious you can do this, that is because it's not a finished feature, but I thought it's harmless to keep in game for those that find it.

One think i noticed between the last two versions of this, you can't actually interact with the register in the clothes store anymore., the NPC there is the only thing you can interact with in that area.
