Basic Writing Outline

Hey everyone, we're 3 days from the next chapter being ready and I thought, why not show you all how I've been planning Pushing Through the Limit and the ones I'm planning on writing in the future.

Similar to anime and manga, I divide my story into arcs and then fill in the things I want to focus on during those arcs.  For example, we started with the Chunin exams arc.

Chunin exams (Setting, Konoha)

Naruto slowly comes to terms with being two people.

Naruto's Jinchuriki status is revealed to Sasuke before the preliminaries.

Naruto meets Kurama and trains under Jiraiya, he spars with Sakura and HInata.

Pa is introduced early.

Naruto fights Gaara early.

etc...

That's the abridged version of how I've planned out the arcs. After I've got enough ideas for what's going to happen and how the arcs going to end, I divide them into chapters and then focus on character interaction while introducing the plot.

After an arc ends, I like to have a buffer chapter or two that wraps up a few loose ends from the finished arc and introduces the next one.

Pre search for Tsunade (Setting Konoha)

Naruto and Kurama tell Jiraiya, Kakashi and Sasuke about Danzo and Obito.

POV for Jiraiya Kakashi and Sasuke. Sasuke doesn't take the news so well and goes a bit mad.

etc...

The Search for Tsunade (Setting, around Tanzaku Gai)

Karin's brought with to prevent Danzo's machinations.

Naruto and Pa fight Itachi and Kisame.

Naruto attempts Ninshu with Tsunade and it doesn't go so well.

etc...

And so on and so forth. It gives me a good idea on where I'm going next and it makes the story feel much more manageable. If you look at a story as a whole and only think about the ending, you might start stressing about how to get there, but when it's divided into smaller chunks, it become much easier to write.

Now, for editing what you've written.

It can be a bit difficult to edit your own work, because it's you who's written it and you don't always see the mistakes.

Following some advice I found online years ago, you need to let the chapter you've just written sit for a few days and then look at it again when it's not as fresh in your mind, that way you don't skip over things. That's pretty much it. Read what you've written and if you don't like it, then just rewrite it.

The worst mistake I've found when writing is to edit the chapter you're currently working on. I've found myself stuck, rewriting the same sentence over and over again for 10 minutes because I wanted it to be perfect and in the end I just gave up writing for the day.

Other than that, I write every day. That's pretty much it.

I hope that if any of you are struggling to write your own stories, that this will help you out. And if not... well, everyone has their own process and you'll figure yours out eventually, you've just got to keep at it.

Anyway, thank you all for reading my work. I've still got a lot coming and I'm super excited for you all to see some of the things I've got planned later on for this story. After the Search for Tsunade arc, I've got two original arcs coming and then we'll be jumping into a timeskip to Shippuden.

I'm really happy to have you all here supporting me. Check you all in the next chapter.
