This little stinker has stolen my heart in a way I didn't think was possible after the very sudden death of our previous cat, Penny.

For anyone out of the loop, here's a run down of events:

My cat, Penny, died very suddenly and unexpectedly while Comet was deployed overseas.

I had to lay her to rest completely alone. Penny was with me for over 16 years, saw three moves, watched me grow, get my degree, meet Comet, get married, and start our lives together.

She was there through everything, and having to put her down while living alone, hundreds of miles away from any friends and family for comfort, was the hardest thing I've ever had to do.

After Comet returned from his deployment, we floated the idea of getting a new kitten for our household, because it didn't feel like home without one, but I was very reluctant to get a new one so soon after the death of Penny.

While visiting his parents, Comet saw a listing for a kitten for sale he said he KNEW I'd love, and as much as it pains me to say this, he was right!

Horus, or The Silver Stinker (as the discord have dubbed him) is the most 'Star' cat there ever was. He's small, fluffy, and LOVES cuddles (like, can't go a SECOND without them!)

He instantly took a shine to me, and I to him, and we've been inseparable since! 💖

Unfortunately, Horus didn't come from the best seller (Comet often describes his purchase more as a 'rescue' than a transaction), and as well as being covered in faeces and fleas, he had an undiagnosed umbilical hernia that the vet's informed us needed operating on ASAP.

Umbilical hernias are located near the belly button and appear as a squishy protrusion or bulge, which is due to a hole in the muscle wall that allows internal organs to pass through. They're generally only seen in kittens because they occur as a result of the umbilical ring not closing properly after birth. A portion of the intestines or other tissues can get trapped and become strangulated (blood flow is cut off to the tissue, causing its death). This is an emergency requiring immediate surgery.

While I understand WHY Comet brought Horus, and we have since given him the best possible care, I think it would be hypocritical of me not to mention the following:

⭐Scammers will often use 'poor conditions' to lure people into buying pets from them.

The draw the 'rescue' a pet is often a driving factor with these scammers, and a reputable seller WILL have insurance for any animals they sell to you, as well as parental history at the very minimum.

Horus came from a very rough background, and we have done everything in our power to give him the care and treatment he needs, including taking him to regular vet check-ups, and consulting with professionals when discussing his condition and future treatment. I also have a background in animal care and handling, which is why I felt confident Horus would be OK under my care. We are taking any and all advice given to us by our vets, and are monitoring Horus daily for any changes, in case he takes a turn for the worst.

We were informed by our vet's that, while relatively common, the hernia will needs operating on ASAP to avoid complications (easier to treat now than wait for something to 'go wrong').

They have assured us that Horus is growing well in our care, and is in a much healthier condition than the condition we originally brought him in.

They have assured us this is a standard procedure, and are happy with his current weight, heart rate and lung capacity to carry out the much needed operation in early January, though we are monitoring him day and night, and have the number for an emergency vets if things take a turn between then.

💖Thanks to all your fantastic support, we have been able to give this little kitten the best love, attention, and care, that he wouldn't have received otherwise!

Comet and I are absolutely besotted with this tiny terror, and we hope we can continue sharing many more pictures and memories to come!💖

He is not out of the woods just yet, but thanks to each of you, we have the funds available should something happen between now and his operation date! 💖

I really can't put into words the amount of joy, gratitude, and appreciation I feel for our little community!
