Parasite (2019) Reaction

What a fantastic standalone story told in this movie. After Squid Game I was very interested in checking out another Korean production and I think this was a perfect choice. Hope you'll enjoy my reaction!

The smell is metaphor for the stigma of lower class people in korea. No matter how well you end up doing in your life, if you were lower class, that stigma will follow you always

i like to think being trapped in the basement under wealthy people is like a metaphor for this family being stuck in poverty. the whole thing with the previous houseworker and how she worked for that rich family for years but never was able to get her husband out of that basement kinda drives that point in imo. i also like that scene where the same event which is the heavy rain happened, yet for the rich family it was nice while the poor family hid their struggle with the flood and how it affected their home

In the end you asked if it was really going to happen that he will by the house or not. The song during the end credits is called 564 years (I think thats the number) and represents the number of years he would have to work to buy this house. So yes, the director thought about it and basically went "yeah, nah, not gonna happen"

Added to the list! You're sure hyping it up so looking forward to seeing what it's about soon hopefully. Thanks for the recommendation :)

Yo Rob if you read any message I ever send you this is the one to pay attention too. Watch the Korean Film called "Old Boy" go in completely blind even. If you like Korean cinema and enjoyed Parasite then Old Boy will knock your socks off. In my opinion one of the best films ever made. Especially if you like a good revenge story. I promise you that you will NOT expect what's coming.

Yeah ngl but popularity will obviously an important factor for me when picking these movies for the foreseeable future as I'm still really trying to grow my audience, but I'll definitely make sure to have a look if there's other ones from the same director I can check! The comment below from Suren already suggested a detective movie which is a genre I love so very eager to look into it!

Robin

Oh damn thanks for letting me know! I LOVE detective stuff so I'll be sure to add that to the list!

Robin

The director of this movie done a murder mystery movie back in the early 2000s called Memories of Murder, and it's honestly one of the best detective mystery movies I've ever seen (main character is also the same actor as the dad in this movie). I know you're a fan of detective stuff so this movie is worth considering a watch.

Not sure how high up it sits regarding reaction popularity, but you should still check out the rest of Bong Joon-ho's filmography on your own time if you don't plan to already. Absolutely some of the most unique storytelling out there and always filled with interesting characters

coolbeans

Yeah I personally think I heard about it first after the Oscar wins. Was making a list of movies to react to on the channel and this was one of the first ones that came to mind. Absolutely agree with you!

Robin

I randomly caught this on tv while passing by. It sucked me in completely. Just a top tier movie!
